Yes, I know, there are plenty of threads about this, do a search. Blah blah blah...

Can I read the fault code for the light with an OBD2 scanner?

I did a search on "clockspring" and got about a hundred thread about how to replace it, but none on how to properly diagnose it. And since its about 130 bucks, im not about to go replacing it if that's not the problem.

nope - the SRS codes are LFC codes - and are only visible by watching the flashing SRS light - the light flashes with a two digit code - so "flash-flash-flash-pause-flash-flash" = LFC 32.

A WDS tool form the dealer can read it directly and perform the pinpoint tests.

Can I just pull the fuse for the airbag system for the time being so I dont have to worry about it blowing up on me? I dont mind the light, its the thought of it that scares me.

How bout is there a way to "test" the clockspring on my own while its still in the car?

Yes, but the light flashing is telling you there is a problem with the SRS system and the airbag won't deploy if needed.

Do your steering controls work? When my c/s went my cruise control switch was acting up. Other than that the dealer is probably your best option. I wouldn't fool around with the airbag system! The other thing it could be is the wiring harness under the seats. They have been known to break at the connection.

No issues with the steering wheel controls that im aware of, I use them every day and haven't noticed anything.

That's why you wear a seat belt.
Looks like ill be paying a visit to the stealership soon then. Might be a good excuse to finally get a few spare keys made for this thing.

I hardly ever move the seats, but which harness is it? The one for the side airbags? Or is there a control module under there somewhere?

Yes, it's the side airbag harness. The wires fray at the connector. If you reach under the seat (left side on the driver's seat) you can feel the plug. I jiggled the wires at the plug and the light would extinguish. I did that for about 6 months before the light stayed on constantly. IIRC, it was ~$200 for the repair. I did the c/s myself.
