T-Stat

JDM makes a 170 degree thermostat, I think only Hypertech has the 160 degree one. I personally use a Napa 180 degree in all my Mark VIII's. Remember it won't do anything unless you get the fan to turn on earlier.

Motorad has their own part# for it.

Mine made a HUGE difference with the 160 with no early turn on.
My guage since the 160 was installed 8 years ago it will not go over the top of the L in normal in the middle of the Summer.
Longer to heat up and it comes down faster too.

I would love to know how in the world you get that type of mileage when both my 95 and my pals 94 (all stock) only do around 22 mpg on the freeway!!!!!
I'm lucky to get 16 mpg in town!!!

What's up? Any secrets?

No secrets at all, just bolt on's.
I have talked in great length about this with Mike Hankins an engineer friend at Ford and freeing up the airflow both in (intake) and our (exhaust) really makes these engines very efficient, then the gears!! WOW!

My average is 18.2.

This is simply because the gearing puts these engines in their "sweet spot" their most efficient rpm range, you use LESS pedal to get moving then you would around town with 3.7's or 3.27's which inturn drives your mpg up.
We get 1.5 from our chip up to 3 on the maf and at least 2 on the exhaust.

Walt in his car which is a carbon copy of mine only with 3.73's gets 28 and change on the highway and high 18 aound town.

I have had people from the board in my car that have seen this in front of their face.

Ask anyone with gears and a properly working Mark VIII.

In this shot I was at 27.1 then I nailed it up to 145 and the MPG then was still at an amazing 24.7.

I want to take a ride on your car, sounds like a fun ride. I have a hard time taking vids while riding in a car going over 120mph. My friends vette gets about 10mpg at 130mph according to his computer.

That's actually kinda bad, my ETC will do 12mpg pegged north of 150. Not that I'd ever do that on a public road.

Turborich, what kind of speeds are you all going getting 22 highway? A lot of changes in speed? Out here on the highway it's generally light traffic and fairly flat, cruising at 75 I'm disappointed with less than 30.
 
OMG! that pic is sic geno. 24.7 mpg doing 145mph...haha. just did my exhaust 2 1/2 weeks ago and for some reason my MPG seems to be dropping. not too rapidly, just staying in the range of 19.8-20.3. depends on the flow of traffic etc...etc.
 
That average is excellent.
I think your decrease in mileage is due to the fact the exhaust was just done and your foot just gained weight.

I normally cruise around 70-75 mph. Yes if i'm going down a slight hill with the cruise on of course the mileage goes up to around 30 instant mpg, on a flat run though it's more like 22-24 instant mpg, and while climbing a slight hill with the cruise on it's more like 17-19 mpg.

In town my average is around 15-17 mpg depending on the traffic. Fresh tune up also. I do notice in the morning when I start her up she runs very very rich untill she warms up then it's all good. Is this normal? I figured it was just the sensors warming up. I park in the garage so I can smell it!!!!!
 
When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? I know that on my 95 (that my father now has), when I changed the filter a few months ago, the car wasn't as sluggish and picked up a couple of MPG from what he said.
 
You can drop in a cooler t-stat without doing anything else. I've heard people saying to get a tune for a different temperature t-stat.
 
I drive 2 hours each way through the mountains in my '93 with 4:30s, run at the track all day and still average 19 mpg.

I have to milk the Harley F150 5.4L 3V to get 13 mpg. :eek:

VERY good point Tommy that will make a big difference.
