Hello everyone, I have been here a while until now I have found everything I needed without posting. What i need is a way to I.D a 3:56.1 rear for my gen 1 five speed. Found a few for the v6 auto but it said 3:31. I don't mind paying for one but i don't want the 3.31...

Thanx in advance
Gary

Btw mine is a manual five speed. I found the info thanx anyways! Not sure why it didn't turn up in the search but it was here.

diff tag bolted to one of the cover bolts.

these are 8.8 tags, but the principal stands.

3 07 is a 3.07 open diff.

3L73 is a 3.73 track lock diff.

you wont find an LS diff with a track lock, but now you know what the tags look like.

Thanx. I found the proper axle codes in another thread. So now i know where to look.

Ok found and purchased one. Should be here in a week. I will let yall know how it goes!

Thanx again for the help

Guess not?

This project got back burnered as we built an LS powered 97 sonoma. I do have the rear end and installed new axle seals. Did not get the limited slip yet though. It will be a direct replacement the only thing I have to find is someone who can reset the speedo.

I am gathering info on swapping an lsd to mine. As far as I know the best option is the Mark VIII carrier with a custom bracket. I haven't found anything as a direct bolt in.
So basically the project is still alive, just in stand by.
