Did the 96 LSC headlights have a special ballast? All of mine have 3 sets of wires, and the hdlt has a plug with 2 wires in it, kind of rectangle with rounded edges. At last I got a set of LSC lts and there like new. The ballast that they came with is like 2 sandwiched, and not the right plug. What am I missing, besides 1/2 a brain? I'm sorry but that made me laugh!

And I wonder if its possible the ballast came from a 2nd gen??

I'd ditch the factory HID's and get some adapters from Jay if he's making DLF's old design, and just run some aftermarkets, and simplify the whole setup.
 
I have an HID kit in the car, with base lenses now. This set of lights is like brand new, and I'd like to hook them up orginal. I have to look to see what I have in ballast, but it's 25 degrees in the garage.
 
Yeah the 96 had a different ballast. You're better off with an A.M. setup imo
 
I have some AM kits, but these lights are like brand new, and I want to try and keep them that way. No hurry it's still 26 degrees outside. Fri and Sat going way up to 40+ degrees. Have 3 that need baths.
 
Changing the light bulb and ballasts will not effect the housing in anyway

the only thing I want to change is the plug if I have to. Would you know what the wattage is on orginal 96 bulbs? I don't have a 96 book. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
 
No idea what it is... But

Could you pull a screw out of the bulb and have its size figured out for me. I need to order some
 
There's a post here somewhere w/ the threadsize. its small I know that much! like an M4 or something
 
Yea I went to Fastenal a while back and the dude wanted to argue with me that it couldn't be a machine thread for plastic.. Worthless
 
I need to know the size as well.

We've come to the consensus on the FB page that it's a #6-32 by about 3/4". I would prefer to order just one batch of screws, lol.
 
Why chop up your headlight harness to wire in outdated technology, those balasts and 9500 sylvania bulbs (which are discontinued btw) run on D/C current, every HID out there now runs A/C. All it takes is 3 screws to remove that old bulb, you arent hurting anything by putting aftermarket HIDs in those housings, many many people have done it including me, and it works great. As a bonus you can probably sell those old sylvania bulbs for $100 a piece, they will pay for the aftermarket kit and more.

yep, AC ballast tech is much better.

and ford likes to change things. the ford wiring change may have been in 98, as my 96 and 97 had the same plugs, the square ones. and the ford replacement bulbs were the round plugs, before they were discontinued.

if ford replaced the 96/97 bulbs, they wanted to replace everything. including the ballasts and wiring, presumably because the connector changed. i know a guy that had it done for about $800.

Just need to figure out what the factory wiring is or ballast connector. In my 97 case, the plug is also the same as an ABS sensor plug, so a quick snip of two ABS connectors the junkyard, and I made my own adapters for the aftermarket ballast.

Pulled the old ballasts + one working bulb out and sold them on eBay.
 
First off, Tony are those the new in box lsc housings from e-bay about a week ago? If they are (or even if they are not) use them. The factory bulbs in the 1st gen LSC housings are so much better light output than aftermarket bulbs. All the factory ballasts are the same. You can use ballasts from a 2nd gen and they work fine. If those are the nib ones from e-bay, those bulbs have no hours on them. And I wish I would have bid more on them. DON'T put aftermarket bulbs in them, you will be sorry you did.

I got these LSC lights from a member on another site. They are like brand new, with the bulbs. The adj screws are shiney like new, not even dirty. I have 2 AM kits,(1 in the car) and maybe 4 gen2 set ups. I have to go in the garage and find all my light stuff, (10degrees out there) I'm sure I can put something together. After the stuff I've been through with lights, I just want to look at them awhile longer. The AC-DC stuff has me concerned. Don't want to poof a bulb.
