Cooling system fill plug

When replacing coolant on a Gen2, is part 8A500 in the diagram below the cooling system fill plug that should be opened ?

Yup, that is the highest point in the system. Also run the car with that cap off to burp the system. Put the cap back on and put it through a few heat cycles then burp again, may need to do it a third time. These cars are finicky with the cooling system.

Also be careful opening it, the 1/4 drive opening like to round out very easily.

But a 12" pipe wrench with a 18" breaker bar works wonders!

Yes some shock mounts please.

I just use the big vise grips and gently tap em' with a hammer.

By the way, if anyone wants a stock OEM replacement fill plug, I've got a whole mess of them in perfect condition, and powdercoated black.

$18 shipped, about half price of what you'd pay at the dealer.
