Think I read something about this before but after I shut my car off theres a tapping and bubbling noise in the center of the dash. What is this?

Sounds like a cracked degas bottle to me. Mine made a similar noise, replaced the degas, no more problems. You can't see the damage until you pull it out.

Not leaking at all, this is in the center of the dash like an actual tapping.

Does the tapping noise sound like a ping pong ball bouncing in a glass? I had a sound like that, forgot which vehicle it was on though.

I get a tapping sound from inside my dash as well. I never had it on my gen I, but in my 06 I have it. Joegr says not to worry about it that it is the climate control doors cycling and moving around. I also sometimes get a delay before air flows out of the center vents. Sometimes I hear the noise when the car is running shortly after I start it as well.

Scjmc- exactly! Just started it up and its there for a couple minutes. Had the heat on, figured something with the climate control. Have noticed a delay in it as well as some fluctuation in air, it blew hot for sec the other day with it on 70 though:/

That's (IIRC) in the OM. It states that the system is blowing the hot air out of the ducting before it blows out of the dash vents. That is supposed to keep you from getting hot air blown in your face.

While I don't recall mine tapping, it was bubbling and the bottle was not leaking. The bubbling went away when the cracked degas was changed. The sound was coming from the front of the car somewhere, although me saying it doesn't mean much. My hearing is shot and it's hard for me to directionally isolate sounds.

Is it really a bubbling sound or is it a rumbling sound? A rumbling sound for several minutes after shutdown is completely normal. It's the air direction doors being moved around.

Gurgle/bubble sound is air in the cooling system. If you want to be sure, bleed the system by procedure. Then turn off car and listen, it will be gone and eventually return.

Ask me how I know...

I'd like to ask you a question. How is it that you know this thing of which you speak and claim to have knowledge thereof? :p

I have no gurgling or bubbling on either of my LSes, but then neither of them have any cooling system leaks. (Both have been through at least one full cooling system refresh so far.)
They do both do the "rumble/tick thing" with the air doors.

Yea, there is a definite distinction between the bubbling and the rumble of the doors.

OP bleed your coolant and see if the bubbling stops.

Mine has started bubbling again after using the AC. About 3 years ago I replaced degas, I can see it is about time to replace again. Going to go ahead and do the thermostat T connection zone this time around, too.

Guess it is the doors moving around but definitely a bubbling which is separate right behind the steering wheel. I recently did a flush and bled it for an hour.... No air came out for sure.

Oh well guess Ill do it again.
