So this past Saturday morning. I wake up early get in the 96 lsc and hope on the highway. 4 hours later I am in Miami. Its here I met another forum member. ultimateSVT.

Previously I saw his for sale ad for some Cobra R rims 17x9 with tires. I started messaging him and we worked out a deal. After Several weeks I was finally able to get them. I will say that they did look rougher then the pictures in the ad. HOWEVER I am not upset and am super happy to have these wheels. Meeting Alex and his wife was also a nice ordeal as well. Both of whom are very nice and friendly people. I was also treated to the ability to see the Marks that he owns in person. Let me say the blurple paint is so beautiful in the sun.

So as with any member of this forum whom i have had the pleasure of meeting and has helped me out in one way or another this is my public thank you to that member.

Thank You UltimateSVT for such an awesome deal and working with me on these wheels as well.

so now for the rest of the thread I will use this on showing my issues on getting the wheels to fit and work on the car. My entire suspension system with the exception of the coils and shocks are shot. really shot.

I have been informed on the issues as to why these wheels rubs and two different ways to fix them. Well I am going to apply both fixes. First i am going to grind the crap out of my spindle arm until the rubbing goes away. second I am going to finish my front end suspension once and for all.

Below are some craptastic pictures for your viewing pleasure.

This one is where you can clearly see the wheel rubbing. However when we started to grind out the area i dont think we cleared enough just yet. I can turn with out a rub now. however a big enough bump or going in reverse i still gear a little rubbage

took off a little bit but it wasnt enough. this is a trial and error thing

and a little bit more. so close i cant wait to get the grinder on it again later. I was told that i should cut a deeper V in the actual section it was rubbing. I was going for a curved section.

Essentially both sides looked the same and we made both sides to be about the same. The car is at least drivable now and turnable in most situations with out any rubbing at all. it is when i am in reverse that it becomes a PIA. and also depending on how hard i corner or how hard the car dips from a bump.

anyway so i have ordered all new front suspension parts. uppers lowers sway bar links. only things i haven't gotten are tie rods and sway bar bushings. As always suggestions and comments welcome. I will post a couple of really bad pics that i have of the wheels on the car. First id like to say that yes i know my paint is falling off. that will be address soon enough. and yes i do plan on restoring the wheels to a much better status then they are currently. however it is still a huge improvement over the stockers I had on them.

these pics where taking in the middle of the night with my cell phone and were meant to be hard to see because of just how ugly my car is right now :)

Of course I will get some better ones once im actually able to drive on the wheels with out them actually rubbing.

and if anyone is wondering its 275/40/17s all around the car.

275s all around make these beasts handle way better than any 4000 pound car has any right to. Looks really good man

Thanks Larry, can't believe you forgot my name... Most ppl call me Alex, you can call me..... um, Alex, lol:D Dude, get that front suspension fixed & I promise the rubbing will be gone. Sadly, for me it wasn't until just months before I sold my '93 that I actually took care of the issue. Thanks for the compliments. It's hard to understand how beautiful my blue '97 looks unless you look at it in person. Pictures will never do that paint any justice. Anyway, sorry you feel that way about the conditions of the wheels. Remember i text you & told you they were very nice but in rough shape & I never got them re-chromed because they were too expensive to do down here but if you don't like them, honestly I have no problem taking them back... I love those wheels that much. You are really making me miss those wheels & you are making me really miss my Gen 1 too.

PS: Paint that '96 LSC. I think it looks SICK! Especially now with those Cobra R's.

Oh, by the way... DAYTIME pictures or it DIDN'T happen! lol.

We've been texting back & forth since last night. I explained to him what the tricks were to get them to rub only while turning in reverse. If they still rub then he needed to spend money on his front suspension which he confirmed is pretty shot.

Here are the links to my babbies. Yes, I consider those Cobra R's my babbies. They look so damn good on a Gen 1.

When I had the rubbing issues.

This is after 10 months of having them sit in my back yard then finally fixing my suspension & throwing them back on my '93

I know there are more threads that show pictures of those wheels on my '93 & also on my "then" black '97. I will continue searching & post them on here.

You aint getting them back. and dont focus on that statement. i have no issues with the condition they are in. they are prime for restoring. im tossing some ideas around on to keep them chrome. or have them black chromed or powder coated black. I didnt forget your name. I still use forum names even tho i know you and jamie and rich.

I am curious and just how bad my backs are. if i hit a bump hard enough it sounds like it rubs in the back. my friend in the car says he thinks im just so low im dragging the muffler. so i get to check for rubs int he back too. maybe ill have an excuse to redo all four corners :)

I founds this post in a link in your wheel rub thread that was pretty helpful too

I would like to ad some New to Me wheels into this thread since cdruffii found it in his kind heart to contribute to my girl's beauty by relieving me of my remaining gold badging. He sent me four brand new OEM chrome center caps for my Desire. I spent all day cleaning and realizing that most all of my suspension components have non-existent rubber bushings. Ahh... my Desire will always call me from the depths of the garage. On to more projects. But I adore her! :D

front suspension rebuild...yep, I'm right there, right now on The White One...just went to Advance Auto and got rental tools: over-sized sockets (36mil for the spindle nut) and outer tie rod end puller...Sapper is hooking me up on LN front end parts: sway links, LCA's, and hubs; I got oem rear SRB's from AAS for $65 and holding off on UCA's and tie rod ends for now...109k miles

those wheels look really good btw, nice score, I know at least a dozen members had instant wood to buy those when big A posted em FS

Lookin goood..some paint would really make that car badass!

Trust me I know. Ive been wanting to paint it for almost a year now. Every time i get ready something pops up that i just cant pass on. Like these wheels. I had to have em so i took it from the paint fund. Trust me the car will get painted soon and it will look sick when its done.
