arguing over which top shelf oil is the best is going to go nowhere, with no real winners.

it would be like me saying that Springfield is better than Glock. while i know that its true, anybody that thinks otherwise is going to continue believing what they do no matter what i say.

Maybe, but Ruger is better than either!!! :p

Is not, my Glock is better.

I know people who have blown their engines very shortly after a change to Royal Purple after the engine had run well using different oil. Some folks blew brand new professional rebuilds using Royal Purple. I've never known anyone who blew an engine using Mobil One. Miles on the engines ranged from 200 to 150,000 miles. If anyone else wants to use it, good luck to you but personally I wouldn't use Royal Purple on a barn door.

your going to tell me of the millions of engines running Mobile 1, not a single one has ever blown up. i find that a little hard to believe...

Did I say that?

I've never known anyone who blew an engine using Mobil One.

Nope. I don't even know millions of people. I mean, the Christmas cards alone would take more than a week.

no, your just making it sound like RP blows up engines and M1 doesnt

Like Telco i've heard horror stories about RP. I haven't heard horror stories about Mobil 1. That's enough for me. Clearly, oil is a nearly religious topic for some.

Got concerned as well, RP out M1 in.
then M1 on sale a week later ... Grrrrrr

Whether it be rumors or truth, hearing something like that is enough for me not to buy it. Especially for as much RP costs, there should never be stories like that.

True that but ... there were stories about Clinton not inhaling also !!!

On a side note, I use conventional on my beater. I missed a change last year and I went a good 4,000 miles over what I usually change it at. Oil still looked new and was less than a 1/2 Q empty. I personally think synthetic is over rated mainly on older engines, of course there are a ton of variables that become a factor.

Truth in Advertising: BP v. Royal Purple By George Gill

The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus recommended Porter, Texas-based Royal Purple modify or discontinue numerous advertising claims for its synthetic motor oil, following a challenge by Wayne, N.J.-based BP Lubricants. The NAD examined comparative performance and superiority claims in print, broadcast and Internet advertising. In some of the advertising, Royal Purple compared its performance to Castrol, Shell, Amsoil and other motor oil brands.

NAD recommended that Royal Purple discontinue its use of consumer testimonials reporting specific performance attributes in the absence of reliable independent evidence showing performance capability.

RP was recently purchased by a big pertroleum oil company, Calumet.

I have a friend that is an engine builder and told me once that they were having a problem using royal purple on the dyno, the engine kept experiencing abnormal wear, he mentioned they switched to a Kendall oil that was green in color and that solved the issue. Me myself I use Mobil 1 and have used Amsoil a few times.
