So i am new to the forums but i have comber through all the "Overheating" threads and have not found anny answers to the problem i am having now.

So.. My problem is that when my 04LS V8 gets up to running temp, water will pour out of the side of the thermostat (which i just replaced). It is coming out of a little slit that is in the mouth of the engine fill hole. any help would be appreciated.

I also want to add that when i try to bleed the system nothing comes out of the bleeder. No air or coolant. I dont know if that helps at all but it is also stumping me and i would image that they are related.

You are not going to be able to bleed it when you have a leak.

The thermostat, thermostat housing, water (thermostat) outlet, and engine fill cap are all separate parts. Did you replace them all? If not, there's your problem. If you did, then your new fill cap must be defective.

i replaced the thermostat and thermostat housing. but i used the stock cap. You think i need a new cap?

Detach the rubber portion of the bleeder hose from the aluminum pipe behind the engine, see if coolant is coming out of there.

No enough pressure to even push it through the heater core or return to the degas,
he/it is bleeding at the Thermostat.

bleeding as in leaking. pissing coolant out. system can't pressurize. full of air.

Yes. The cap is supposed to stop coolant from coming out there, and apparently it is not.

Please note that sometime soon you will find that your degas bottle is also cracked, the plastic parts of your radiator hoses will crack, and the tube between the water pump and the coolant outlet pipe will crack.

Usually, when one plastic part fails, the rest follow in a month or so.

my heater is working in the car. it seems like the cap is not fitting 100% right. I have coolant leaking from the thermostat from a hole that is designed in the thermostat. i know this because the stock thermostat has the same hole in it. i describe it as a hotdog shaped hole that is right in the 90 degree fill hole. i dont know if that helps at all

i replaced those plastic parts and is the reason i decided to go ahead and just do the thermostat while i am at it.

Yes, I know about the hole/passage. The cap has two o-rings that go in fairly deep that seal off the passage. I think that the passage is there so that if you start to remove the cap on a hot pressurized engine, the steam will start venting away from you before you get the cap off.

The only place that coolant is designed to vent during operation (if overfilled or badly overheated) is from the 15 PSI pressure relief of the degas bottle cap.

ok, i wasnt trying to make it sound like you didnt know what you were talking about, i just wanted to make sure i was clear. It makes sense now as to why the hole is there. so i guess my first step is to get a cap that fits right. once i get that fixed then i can do the bleeding steps. If you happen to have that link handy i would appreciate that.

You may want to check your intake manifold gasket and your degas bottle as well it may not be leaking but there may be micro cracks

I can tell you for a fact by experience that no coolant flows through the gen II V8 intake manifold. I've removed and reinstalled one a couple of times.

Yeah, your degas bottle may not leak all the time but still be full of cracks.
it needs to be up to temperature and be under pressure. if neither of those,
it can be full of cracks but yet not leak.

have a look here: http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=88661

My old bottle didn't leak all the time yet full of cracks.
