a couple rare junkyard marks

Had the day off today and saw one of the local pick n pulls had a 96 that recently arrived so I took a ride out there to check it out. Well I stumbled on these two all the way in the back one of which was the 96 I came to check out and the other was a 98 midnight grey LSC. At first I thought the 96 was a diamond anniversary because of the color, but upon further inspection noticed it had saddle interior (door panels were junk unfortunately) and the car did not have the diamond anniversary 1/4 glass. So I finally figured out my suspicion, cordovan was an option on any 96 mark and not only he DA unlike what .org's facts state.

Aside from those two there were 2 other marks there also, a black on black 93 and a white on black 94..so all in all quite rare stuff to find in a junkyard especially the two with black interior which were both in decent shape surprisingly. I thouroughly scavenged all of them looking for anything useful I could grab and came up empty handed. After the discouragement wore off I figured I'd try calling another junk yard about 5 miles away to see if they had any marks..and sure enough they had a 94..so I figured why not since I was close. It always seems like when I go to junk yards I end up finding nice parts that I don't particularly need..but can't pass up (considering its fate if I don't take it) here's what I found and grabbed off this other 94...

Looks like the front end was repaired at one point before, the paint looked fresh and the grill was immaculate, had to have been a new replacement when it was fixed, corner lights were equally nice..with the exception of the trim bubbling on one side..but I can always swap that out. Got the grille for $25! Makes me wonder why anyone buys sh*t on ebay. So now I have a plethora of grilles at home in varying conditions, I want to get rid of at least two of them so if anyone needs/wants one lemme know.
 
We have had 2 Mark VIIIs in our local junk yard in the last 3 years. I envy you guys, I used to love to go pull parts back in the day.
 
Send me a quote on a lesser perfect one? I'm having a hard time locating Marks around here now . Last year they were everywhere. Most have front damage when I do find them. Marks get just a little rarer every year. Gotta figure, out of the 4 I've owned 2 of them are now toasters, I can't imagine how many have been crushed by now. Salvage yards aren't holding cars as long as they used to either, seems about 3-4 months after the yards get anything they smash it for rotating stock. I've been keeping weekly checks of the 5 major ones close to me and none have taken in a new Mark in the last 2 months. I've been scavaging any usable part I felt was worth the space in my box for safe keeping

The first pick n pull I went to today is one of the larger pick n pulls around here, and usually they hold cars for several months..but by the time the last month comes around there's usually nothing left of it..I was surprised though today, the black 93 that was there has been in the yard since september, and really nothing was gone off it besides the door panels and hood, I think the winter months around here discourage people from going junkyard hunting due to too much snow piled up around cars or being too cold..that wont stop me though lol. The second yard i visited after that was actually much larger than I thought after I walked in, this is the only yard I have been to around here that actually has OLD cars in it too. They had all kinds of ancient land yaghts there, anything from old cadillac eldos, to 60s thunderbirds, to oldsmobile cutlass', 88s and 98s, 60s riveria, late 60s skylarks (my fave) even a rotted out late 20s early 30s ford with a SBF in it..looks like it was someones old hot rod that got left to rot...really cool stuff, I wish I took some pics of them. But ANYWAY back on topic, SAPP I'll PM you some pics of each grille I have, I have 3 that I'll end up selling actually. FYI another member PMd me about one also.

Nothing really, it wasn't wrecked..underhood looked like they sprayed it with salt water for 10 years straight though, looked pretty ugly. The headlights, neon and center console were gone..the rest was there.

This junkyard specializes in ford vehicles. I was quoted $40 for the grille off a Gen II. Don't know if they ship out parts but it might not hurt to ask them. They don't let you pull off the parts off their cars, so that's why I am thinking they can ship also.

KeVIIIn, what was the interior of that black Gen II Mark VIII? and year? Looking for the door panels in black from a 97.
 
I think you have all the luck with the junk yard finds. I could use a new grill to replace the gold one, however; recently everything on the bottom end started leaking. So now from fixing the cosmetics, I am looking at dropping the K member out and replacing the oil pan gasket, the oil filter adapter gasket and replace the engine mounts while it's out. Also while the K member is dropped out I will probably replace the LCA's and do the front hub swap. I am just hoping the leak holds out till the weather gets a little nicer.

sorry boys, I'll be gathering all the corner lenses I have and combining the best lenses with the best chrome trim to make the best set possible..already got a PM about them so I gave him 1st dibs on whatever is left over.

WOW, that 95 LSC looks solid! I'd never part that out..and that black interior is awsome, wish mine was black. I'll have to forward that to nolimit

the 2nd gen in the yard was a 98 with grey leather btw.

I asked about shipping just now but I'm sure they won't answer till later today. If I had a trailer and good tires on the truck, I'd run down there and get the whole thing and bring it back. I did have one that was a double axle and could have easily carried that car but it was sold back in 2007 because it wasn't being used for anything. I could always drive the Mark down there in about 6 to 7 hours and just swap out the front and rear bumper covers and drive back....
 
If I had the money and a place to put it (and provided the yard didn't want stupid money for it), I'd be tempted to pick up that 98 MG and restore it.

Yeah it really wasn't in that bad of shape, a couple door rings here and there but the paint wasn't too bad..I think the rockers were rusty though ..the interior was junk too.

Don't remember, I glanced under most of them and they were all converted to springs that I saw, this might be on air still but would be a pain in the ass to get them out with the wheels on due to wheel locks.

Where are they located exactly..never pulled one off before? If the wheels need to be removed it would be a problem because the wheels had wheel locks on them which is why they didn't remove them. I don't know much about 2nd gens, is the balast part of the neon? Because the neon was gone. But honestly I'm not sure when I will be available to go back..might not be for another week or so.
 
You'll need to remove back seat, and trunk carpet, wheels don't have to come off thou.

The ballast is under the trunk deck carpet on the right side, I may just go ahead and order a Glitch.

The ABS sensors are 98 specific, and I'd really appreciate them.


Oh and I asked my bud about the grill.. he said he can't afford it thou. So you can sell them, it wasn't for my car :)
 
Abs sensors are screwed in to the sides of the differential at the axle with a hex or torx bit I can't remember which. They route up thru the trunk with a rubber grommet that falls out real easy, and disconnect behind the metal on the sides that the trunk hinge is attached to. Behind the rear shocks a few inches. Atleast on a first gen.
