So I figured I would replace rotors and pads all around on the LS (04 V8) before my vacation is over. Started on the drivers rear, the inside pad was bare metal and the rotors appear to be OEM, needless to say they needed some love.

Anyways, during reinstall of the new pads and rotors I noticed that the bottom caliper slide was stuck, would not move at all. Inspecting the slide pin I notice there is no grease under the boot, just rust. The boot appears to be in great shape, so I am unsure as to how this could be.

After a bit of WD-40 and a bench vice, I was able to free it with no major damage, other than some superficial metal disfiguring on the head of the guide pin.

My question is, would it be foolish to clean it up, regrease and reinstall? I believe I will have to order these and the wife will need the car.

Happy New Years!

Just get a caliper repair kit. It will come with new pins and boots and it's not very expensive. The front and rear are different.

If the rear brackets are special order, you could always hone them out a bit. I have extra front and rear brackets in my garage, as they always seem
To take at least a week or so to order, which doesn't help in the middle of a brake job.

Yeah, it seems the local parts stores have to order almost everything for my LS. I think I will just order the Caliper Pins and Boots on RockAuto, as they have the exact same Motorcraft Brake Caliper Kit for 40% less then O'Reilly and O'Reilly has to order them too. :D

Basically I just wanted to know if it would be imprudent to grease it up and put it back together whilst waiting on the parts.

As long as it is just for a week or less, you should be okay.
