96 cooling fan problem

Iam having an overheating problem with my 96. When the temp gets hot the fan does not come on. The fan does work with the ac. And once and awhile it will come on. I did try and unplug the sensor, and the fan comes on. PLEASE HELP!

I think if i remember correctly the vcrm is going bad. I think the test for it was if it works when max ac is on but not when it's running without ac was the clue to a bad vcrm. It may just be a loose plug if unplugging and reconnecting makes the fan come on.

I would replace the coolant temp sensor. IF it comes on with the sensor unplugged and also with the a/c on, there is nothing wrong with the VLCM.

OK guys. I have a new one. I changed the radiator, fan and thermostat. With the fan running on high. The car is still overheating. WTF!

I filled it at the crossover tube untill it was full. and the bottle is full. What else do I need to do? Its still full

Leave the cap off, of the crossover tube, and let it run, so the air can escape the engine.

Yeah, you can't just fill it full. You have to let it run with the cap off and it will act like a miniature volcano when it's all the way full. Some have even rocked the car back and forth to help air escape. That's been your problem the whole time was an air bubble in the system. Keep in mind, burping all the way can take up to 10 min, maybe 15 before you get it all out.

Also make sure your AC condenser is clean and undamaged.

This is why I picked up my spare VLCM a couple years back when my buddy called me from the salvage yard and said they had one. 96 only part and they can be fun to find when needed.

-where on the temp gauge was it registering? at or above 'O' ? into the 'H' ?

Got it fixed. It needed to be burped more. Plus I found me alternator was only putting out 11 amps. The fan was not turning at max speed.
