Hey guys,
I know the LS has a feature that allows you to set the time that the headlights stay on after you exit the vehicle (I have mine set at 90 seconds) but is there a way to have the headlights come on when I unlock the doors? Kinda like the puddle lights on the side mirrors come on. I know this feature is available on a lot of GM vehicles including my wife's Chevy Malibu. Be nice to see where I am walking to in the dark.

Did not know this was possible on the LS. I know my step dads Towncar does it.

I need to buy me an owners manual :/

In the 2001 I had set to disable the irritating seat belt not clicked warning,
shut that chimer off, was something else I had disabled, forget now.

EDIT: 'Belt Minder' disabled.

~ the other item I had disabled was the Autolock/Relock feature,
not a big fan of doors locking when I put it in gear.

Although my year does not have the puddle lights on the mirrors, I do see in the 2001 owners manual,
a reference to 'Illuminated Entry' it's on page 96 of the 2001 manual, perhaps that's what your looking for.

No, you can't set the LS to turn on the headlights when you unlock it. It's a feature that my Grand Marquis had that I slightly miss.

It could be worse. My 325i turns the headlights off when you turn the key off.

Seems like just the interior lights come on when using the FOB to unlock, shame it won't enable the puddle lights as the OP had hoped for.

I hate when Chevys reverse lights light up also when they unlock the doors or whatever. It drives me nutts when I'm looking for a parking spot and there reverse lights are on and there not even in their damn car.

I could hook you up with an 06 manual.

My puddle lights do come on when I unlock it with the remote. I was just hoping for a bit more light because I have to walk to the car when its kinda dark.

If your puddle lights don't come on, then there is something wrong. The OP was wanting the headlights to come on.

I have exactly the same complaint. It seems like that shouldn't be allowed because after a while, we'll all start ignoring the backup lights.

I wish my 01 had puddle lights, no lights under the mirrors at all.
easy fix though, I just don't park near puddles.

The puddle lights make this car look like a million bucks. Especially if you put LEDs in them.

Ya my 02 aint got them :( But my 05 does. Meh, I don't think its all the world a difference.

The loss of Auto wipers (not to be confused with intermittent) yes Automatic wipers that have the sensor in the windshield, something my 02 has that my 05 doesn't, is a greatly missed feature.

I almost rarely touch my wiper switch on my 02.

Just tossing this out, if you would buy a tuner and told them to write a custom tune that included that, couldn't it be done?

anyone know how to disable Autolock/Relock feature on gen2?
too busy to look that up thanks

Like Joegr said about his Grand Marquis, we had a Crown Vic that would turn on the headlights at night with door unlock. I also miss that feature.

Not saying this is the case on the LS, but most computerized cars that have programmable interior features have a separate BCM that the programmers don't touch. There's no money in programming BCMs. If someone wanted to develop a BCM programmer though, the field is wide open. Don't expect it to bring in more than about 75 bucks a unit. I'd not mind having access to reprogram the BCMs on all my vehicles, but it's not worth spending a lot of money on. Still, would be nice.

Yes, that stuff is controlled by the FEM, not the PCM.

Ok, wasn't sure if they could all be tied in on a tune.....just thinking out loud to see if the systems could communicate some how.

Setup button and keep punching that until "Auto Lock" shows up and then hit "Reset" button to change it.

Ps: Keep hitting "Setup" to check out all of the other things you can change ie; Lock Chirp, Easy Exit/Entry, Autolock, Headlamp Delay.

If you get a wiring diagram you could probably add a jumper between two FEM pins so that the headlights come on whenever the puddle lights come on. I did that once to make my puddles flash with the blinkers.
