The work you did on the shifter look's excellent!! It makes me think twice about what I want to do with mine. I'm gonna have to keep this thread in mind. You did very good work! My compliments to you...for a job well done!!!To take the shifter apart, you slide the vertical sleeve down and there in a screw or two that come out and the shifter slides right off.
the knob i am using is an aftermarket mustang UPR one. I did remove the spring inside it cause it was to stiff, and I also had to put it on my lathe and turn the recess a little deeper to allow more travel for the center button.
The OD button i used if from a 06 explorer shift handle. I had one laying around since i put a Flex shift in the wifes explorer.
The boot is an ebay speical for a mustang as well. I love the look and feel of the new setup.
I ended up doing 3 coats of primer wet sanded then 3 coats of paint wet sanded then 2 coats of clear might do more it looks good but I don't know if the 1000 grit was too much or if I was putting too much pressure on it but if u look at the trim from the right angle u can kind of see the scuffs under the clear but not too much I think I might use 1500 or 2000 for the rest
