Shifter/interior questions

To take the shifter apart, you slide the vertical sleeve down and there in a screw or two that come out and the shifter slides right off.

the knob i am using is an aftermarket mustang UPR one. I did remove the spring inside it cause it was to stiff, and I also had to put it on my lathe and turn the recess a little deeper to allow more travel for the center button.

The OD button i used if from a 06 explorer shift handle. I had one laying around since i put a Flex shift in the wifes explorer.

The boot is an ebay speical for a mustang as well. I love the look and feel of the new setup.

The work you did on the shifter look's excellent!! It makes me think twice about what I want to do with mine. I'm gonna have to keep this thread in mind. You did very good work! My compliments to you...for a job well done!!!

If I clear coat everything do I need to wet sand them first or is that just when painting

if you are doing base coat/clear coat.... you put down the base first.. then clear. No sanding of the base, and no sanding between coats of clear. If you want it to be like glass, wet sand and buffer after the final coat of clear. put 4-5 coats of clear on.

I ended up doing 3 coats of primer wet sanded then 3 coats of paint wet sanded then 2 coats of clear might do more it looks good but I don't know if the 1000 grit was too much or if I was putting too much pressure on it but if u look at the trim from the right angle u can kind of see the scuffs under the clear but not too much I think I might use 1500 or 2000 for the rest

My pass door interior panel is starting to peal up near the window was wondering wut would be the best thing to use to glue it back down

mine was peeling when i bought it... I used 5 min epoxy and so far so good....

This wut I've done so far painted the part on the dash that wraps around to the speakers silver and the wood trim gunmetal I order wight face gauges ford racing pedals a billet shifter knob and a leather boot for the shifter and I'm eventually gonna order an in dash navi for it I'm a dumbazz though and I got a little impatient and cracked the trim that goes around the Gauges when i was removing it so I ordered one off of eBay it would have taken way too long to walk across my driveway to grab a screwdriver to help pry it off oh well

That's why you do not sand the base coat when laying clear, now the scratches are trapped between layers of base, and layers of clear .. looks great in the pics tho, can't see the scratches
