Ill be honest and say i wasnt pulled over for exhaust, it was because i squealed the tired a bit leaving the parking lot of a sports bar, which happened to be patronized by a group of sherrifs...

i know i shouldve been more careful, but it happened and right in front of a sheriff leaving the sports bar.

I am guessing it was his in to try and see if i was driving under the influence (which i wasnt) and since it was private property he couldnt cite me for the tire spinning (or so i belive, otherwise he would have, right?) so he gave me a fix it ticket for exhaust.

Previous owner (a detective) removed the mufflers and put straight pipe back to a tip. Not the most tuned sounding exhaust, but not exactly obnoxiously loud and vibrant like a ricer.

I guess ill just go to a place with a db meter and hope its under 95db so i can get the citation ammended.

Otherwise, can an exhaust shop possibly fit 2011 mustang mufflers on my car? found a pair for cheap near me, and they have 2000 miles on em. Or maybe i should buy those silencer tips that ricers use? Any ideas?

Any ideas?

yeah, always keep a fresh box of donuts in the LS, never know when they will except a bribe.

Once in my work truck, I saw flashing red and blue light in my side mirrors ...

~ it went away 5 1/2 hrs later.

He had me roll my back windows down because they're tinted...guess he was hoping for that pink box. No donuts, no dead hookers ...just perforated leather.

I still feel lucky for not getting a ticket for spinning the tires. That could have been a nice fine and a point or two on my record. $50 fix it ticket is manageable ...lame, but manageable.

But I'm assuming if he could've given it he would've. He said " I don't know why you have that smirk on your face" ...should I frown? Idk? He seemed like avg new cop with power issues. Even came to the driver side window twice and this was on a busy street....thats taking a big risk with your life.

(hopefully I don't come off sounding like a prick myself...I wasn't. I was genuinely trying to be polite and respectful...it goes a long way with most people, including sheriffs)

Basically I just need to figure out how to quiet this car to get the ticket signed off....I think stock mufflers would do it, but I dint have em. So stock mustang mufflers is next best thing for me...because there is a set, and they're $40! Otherwise what can I do?

I have 2 stock LS mufflers in my garage.

If you're in CA just get mufflers installed and move on. I'm sure a muffler shop could install the correct inlet/outlet size mufflers. Be aware the LS system is stainless steel and adding non-stainless will eventually cause rust at the welds.

I've heard you can get tickets for loud exhaust but you're the first I've heard of to actually get one. Cop just wanted to site you for something and I guess your exhaust was the only thing he could. I have to assume that any Mustang or Camaro with anything but factory exhaust has to be louder than the LS even with no mufflers.

I got a ticket for my window tint and was told that I can pay to have it removed and then the shop that removes it sends in a signed letter to the police station and then they don't require me to pay the fine. However, the ticket was like $100 and removing the tint was like $100 so I just payed the fine. By not removing the tint I am obviously subject to get pulled over again and get another fine, but it's been 2+ years and I've had no problems (knock on wood). Is it that kind of ticket or do you have to pay it no matter? In which case, I'd pay the fine and leave the exhaust and hope the cops don't bother me.

every place is different, some places are really hard on noise levels

as far as a pony or slomaro with a modified exhaust being louder than a LS with no mufflers, that is just silly. thousands of explosions happening every minute will be loud as hell no matter what kind of car it is. a pony would have to also have next to no exhaust to be as loud as a straight piped LS. when swapping out my mufflers for a pair of Flo's, I drove it around the block once to see how it sounded with just straight pipes and it was stupid loud, louder that a Harley, definitely louder than any mustang Ive ever heard running just about any kind of modified exhaust.

OP: as far as OEM mustang muffles being used, it MAY work, but its hard to say if it will line up right since it is offset in and offset out style, you would probably be much better off taking some measurements and just getting something that it exactly the right size for you car

You're right loud - different rules in different states - where is the OP?

When I said straight pipe I'm talking about just removing the mufflers. I know some members on here have done that but I thought with the rest of the stock exhaust (resonators and such) the car isn't too loud?

I've heard some pretty loud Mustangs and Camaros and I've driven a 69 Corette Stingary 427 with sidepipes. I also remember taking my 5.7 Camaro for a spin on open headers (before I installed the cat back) and it was stupid loud.

I just have a hard time believing that his LS (with cats, resonators and just mufflers removed) is as loud as a Mustang or Camaro with straight pipe and just mufflers. Guess I could be wrong though.

it looks like he is in the peoples republik of California (unless it is a different cupertino)

while the cats do quiet the exhaust a tad, the resonators are a straight through style and really dont do a whole lot of quieting down compared to the rear mufflers, they more just mellow the tone of the exhaust note so that it doesn't sound as rough.

i would say that my LS is still a bit quieter with flomasters than the last LS i heard running with a muff delete.

with the flows, it is no less loud than the same exhaust on a pony, let alone "anything but factory"

the rear mufflers on the LS are by far the biggest factor in how quiet it is stock, the muffs are almost the size of metal trash cans!

I'm surprised he didn't ticket you for just driving an LS in Apple land... I'm guessing its a V8? That's damn near illegal in California itself.

Yes this is apple land, cupertinio, ca and it is the V8 (should be illegal shouldnt it? im surprised i dont get charged more at registration or something...thats coming soon though i bet)

The muffler delete has pipe welded on and 4" tips coming out the back, its not just dumped. It may sound redneckish, but this is not a rednecks lincoln. I bought it this way, and havent had time to deal with it.

Thanks for all the input. I have decided to get it signed off through an officer who is friends with someone i know. Ill just pay the damn penalty and get on with life.

Ill be researching mufflers, i want something quiet, and sporty sounding. Any input is welcome, but ill be thoroughly searching threads for input as well.

On a side not, i measured the db, and it was around 87, but thats with an app on my phone...so its probably not that accurate. I thought about how much work it would be to get this amended, and figured its not worth the $50 so fack it, so im not going to go through the trouble of actually getting it measured by a state ref, or going to court and submitting my own data.

I got 1 also a couple of years ago and when I asked the cop what the decibal level is so I could comply he said "there is none, it is my judgement", hmmmm ok. He also said my car was shaking the ground from 2 blocks away, hmmmm my LS must be a alcohol funny car and I did not know it!!!!!!!!

This supposed to irritate me M4rk ?

Being from Ontario aswell, I can't believe you just did that to me ....

However ~ that ride is cool !!!

I'll buy it and put it in your driveway !!!

Nice tuck work on the tips. What kinda are they?
wish i knew, they were there when i bought it. I agree that they look good on the LS, theyre huge, but they work on this car. When i buy mufflers i may go for the quad tips...i always liked those tips.

Maybe there is a company engraving somewhere, ill check it next time im down there.

Are you going to modify the cutout to fit quad tips? I don't think two tips in a round cutout would look good.

That was pretty funny!
