Had the thermostat literally blow up and shatter the plastic water outlet. One of the bolts that hold it on came out anchor and all. A shop fixed it with a heli coil. Any way, when I went to pick it up it had to be jumped. Battery was fine when it went to the shop. Got it home and now every time I crank it, lights flash, horn honks and it dies. WTF is wrong with this car?

That was probably the last that the alternator could take. Get it tested. It's certain at this point that you at least need a new battery.

Battery

Run the car for awhile to recharge the battery. I let mine run down one day listening to the radio. Once I started it, it acted crazy, but after a 30 minute drive all back to normal.

If you're battery checks out good, alternator not so well, be sure to charge the battery prior to installing the new Ford/Lincoln/OEM alternator. A dead battery will put a ton of strain on the alternator to charge it back up initially.

Battery was completely dead, put it on charger last night. If it works will get it to mechanic and have it along with charging system tested.

Full charge on battery, all the warning lights and sht are going off. Drove it to shop, and they tested it and said everything is fine. Cleared all the alarms except one I have never seen, service parking brake, and it will not stop. They said they did not have time to fool with it. Any ideas?

This is a normal result of the battery being disconnected or discharged.

If you have a V8, then you have a message center. The message center will guide you through the simple procedure to recalibrate the parking brake.

If you have a V6, then you just need to set and release the parking brake a time or two.

(You really should use the parking brake every time you park. Since it auto releases, there's no down side.)

Auto releases? After shifting into Reverse/Drive?

Yes, it will auto release when you shift into reverse, drive, D4, or D3 (if you don't have sst).
It will also auto release if you set it while in drive and then depress the gas pedal.

Mine is a V8, and that did it, thanks. BTW nelliot500, that looks just like mine, of course mine is dirty, I live on a white rock road.

This would apply only to the '02 and later models, right? The earlier Gen 1 with the hand lever do not automatically release.

Neat. I learn something new about this car constantly. Usually from you.
