I promise to nicer if you promise to be smarter.
Anyone running these DOT slicks? I've done some... work to my 05 CL and frankly, the Pilot PS2's are getting chewed up something awful. Went through a set of rears in less than 1200 miles. And if you know how I drive, you know I don't drive like a jackass. Sure, there's the occasional freeway WOT, but other than that... I'm an old fart, I don't go racing around.

However, now even under medium acceleration, the traction control light in the dash cluster is flashing like a damned strobe. The stern, fun hating, German nanny that lives under the dashboard turned in his two weeks notice. Apparently I've piled a lot more torque management and traction control management work on his desk. As such, I've decided to go with stickier tires. I am well aware of the drawbacks such as less tire life (but damn, it's gotta be better than 1200 miles), and the craptacular wet performance characteristics of such tires.

My research indicates this is a pretty good DOT legal slick, but word of mouth from personal experiences is always king over "research".

Due to the factory tire size, I don't have many more options that seem to be as good of a tire as the AD08. And no, I won't go one size bigger... sorry, just not my cup of tea.

Get some wheels that let you run bigger tires?

Then again you will have a hard time sticking that much power the the ground no matter what tires you run...

The problem with wider wheels on that car is the offset. The factoy offset is +60mm. An 11 inch wide wheel would need about 77 millimiters worth of a positive offset to keep the wheel from sticking out too much. it would stick out an extra 2millimiters, actually, but it would be about as much as i could push it towards the rear strut. Yes, it's a strut not a shock.

If I owned a car like yours I would be looking at some stuff made by ADV.1 they are building some amazing stuff...

Sorry, not sure of your tire size so I prolly cant help much.

I have not used that tire so cant say but I do have a tire fetish and have tried everything out there. I thought my PS2s were the cats pajamas until I found the Yokohama S-Drives. There is no doubt my S-Drive hook better then the PS2s ever did, they are quieter and I got a solid 18K out of them with the last several thousand miles spinning them a good 50% of the time under hard launches. Their price is very reasonable and I cant say enough good things about them.

I have also recently been in a 04 Cobra with 657rwhp running the Nitto NT05 and was blown away with their ability to hold the cars power. He only had 1000 miles on them so I cant say how long they last cause they look shaved when new anyway. He did say they are sketchy in the rain, not as bad as Goodyear F1s but not very great.
I can say the S-Drives are excellent, prolly the best tire I ever had in the rain.

As long as the S-Drives are being made I wont use any other tire on my car. :)

Toyo R1R, Kuhmo XS - don't know your tire size however...

Horsepower doesn't kill tires. Torque does.

If you're roasting those S Drives 50 percent og the time, then they're not doing a good job at transfering the power to the ground, IMHO...
Sorry, you are misunderstanding me. Its me driving like an idiot and nailing the throttle half the time cause I am immature and like to hear the blower whine and the ass kick out. :D It would break drag radials lose too with a snap WOT romp from a dead stop with no heat.

What I am saying is if you are not deliberately trying to break them lose then they have more grip then a PS2 or a TA/KDW or Continental ECP or Pirelli P-Zero or a F1 GS-C/D or N555 or a General UHP etc etc.

She pointed, chuckled and said "Aww... It's CUTE!".... oh wait... you mean tire size...

275/35/19's.

I'll check your guys' suggestions as well. Thank you.

Gotcha.

BTW, thanks for sending the fan.

Oh wait, you didnt.

Dude... seriously? I offered you that fan for free, just pay shipping. Please don't take this the wrong way and you'll probably dislike me for saying this, but my schedule doesn't revolve around "your" schedule when I give people stuff for free. Hell, I'm not even charging for my time or lunch money...
most people who know me wonder what the eff is wrong with me when they hear I'm giving stuff away, what with being a capitalist and all.

I'd give the shirt off my back to a friend in dire need. But god damn it, I'll be damned if I will give it to a friend who tries to make me feed bad about it.
There is a difference between reminding someone of something in private and doing it in public to try and appeal to the other person's sense of guilt.

The only box I found that I could fit the fan in, is ginormous and I really didn't want to send the fan in that box anyways. It would have cost an arm and a leg. Besides I can't fit it in a car to take it to UPS. I brought my pick-up truck down here on the 27th of december. Holidays and the like were not a good motivator for me to ship it. Furthermore, your car is not sitting in the driveway and undriveable because of a bad fan. As such, i didn't consider you getting this fan a dire emergency that would necessitate lighting a fire under my ass and shipping it to you.

Either way, I get my pick-up truck back from the mechanic wednesday. I will put that way too large box in the bed and ship it to you, trying to save you money on shipping be damned.

I will expect re-payment for shipping charges to arrive within 7 calendar days after UPS delivers the fan to you.

That is all.

Take it up to 275 40 19 you can run tons of different tires... Just a teeny higher profile - you probably won't even notice it...

I wouldn't, but the traction and stability controls would. They're pretty sensitive. I had 285/35/19's on... another car and the ESP would act every now and then for the first 3500 or so miles after putting them on. The 285/35's are only about 1/10th of an inch taller sidewall over 275/35. I would have thought there would be a little more tolerance built into the Traction control system.

Pretty much. But on the flip side, when you REALLY need them, they're right there saving your ass from potentially bad end results to your sometimes idiotic driving. Thankfully, I'm not the type to "test" them by driving like a moron, but aside from my bitching about them, I really do like them stern german nannies in place. Peace of mind and all that.

Hey Frog, three months ago you said you were sending it and didn't. Then posted a box last year with a fan in it. I waited and waited till I could wait no more and got another fan. The thought is nice if it is followed through when its needed. Now in this thread I was just givin you chit cause you give it and I know u can take it. I know you are busy and have more important things and have told others on here that when asked if you ever sent the fan.

As I said though I have one now from sapperfire. As for funds for shipping, I can't send it right now. I literally have $6 to my namee, no money in the bank and no jobs lined up.

I fear this may make us not friends anymore and that bums me out but had this been taken care of last year or one of the many times it was supposed to have gone out then we wouldn't have this trouble now.
I take my blame for giving you chit for it though. Sorry for that.

I don't discard friends over simple arguments/misunderstandings. That would just be plain silly. Now, you steal one of my midgets...? I will go to war with you and you'll never see me coming.

Far as I'm concerned, you and I are squared away with this and can move on to the next argument.

And to those other people who you mentioned. If you have something to ask, do it to my "face", not behind my back. Nothing irks me more than whispers behind my back.

This matter is now closed.

But, you got over 3500 on them - unlike your pilots - and I would bet that the Yokohama slicks aren't going to give you much over 3000 -

The nanny might act up a little bit - but it has got to be better than sinking over $1200 in tires every couple of thousand miles...

This is true. But when the nanny acts up, the whole car falls on it's face for a second or so due to the torque limiters kicking it. It's really quite annoying.

Get something with AWD :D

Problem solved... I bet your little pick up hooks up good :p

It's been known to...

I don't drive crazy, but I've been known to lean on it pretty good on occasion. I've gone through two sets of PS2s and got more than 30K out of each set. WTF??? (Maybe it's the suspension design---I couldn't get more than 13-14K out of tires on my last Jag.)

Then step up one size on the front tires as well. I assume as long as the front and rear wheel speed difference was the same as stock size then it wouldnt have an issue with a slightly taller tire...... unless it also uses GPS speed to calculate its electronic stability program but that would be dumb...... then again I guess the Nissan GT-R does something like that to limit speeds when not on a track in Japan..... fuggin nannys.

I love new tech but wish you could fully shut off the watch dogs in newer cars.

I think the GT-R uses the GPS to tell the 'nannies' back at Nissan that the car is on a track and they use that information to null your warranty.

One reason the little puppy (the 911) is so fun to drive - it has 'nothing' no power steering, no ABS, no traction control, it is very 'mechanical', not one single 'nanny'. It is like a go-cart for grown ups. :)

thats the hole reason i fell in love with the mr2, the raw feel, only options it had were power windows, power locks, power brakes, and a supercharger :D exact polar opposite of the markviii
