I hear all you guys talking about this Xcal2 tuner and finally checked it out on thier web site. I noticed they have a tune for 87 octane. Has anyone ou their ran there car with this tune? I realize most of you buy it for the HP (93 performance tune) but did anyone use it get more economy out of cheaper 87octane fuel.

I realize I can run 87 in my LS now but it is not recommened. I've run 87 in the past but I normally run 92 or higher.

I was going to try a tune that helped with mileage and Torrie said it can be done but I then asked myself why? I would rather get the HP

Even if you get 1 mpg more out of this tune it's going to take a long time for the XCAL to even pay for itself.

Is $3.60 more per tank really that much to find alternatives??

LS has a 18 gallon tank x .20 cents extra for 93 octane gas. Thats not even $200 more a year if you fill up once a week. $200 is one night out having drinks. :Beer

I would think that you would be better off getting Torrie to build up a Mileage tune.
It might not make more power than the stock tune, but it be able to go farther on the same quantity of gas.

IF you get 1mpg from the tune you can go an extra 18 miles on a tank. Not really worth 200 bucks IMO.

The 87 octane tunes are more intended for cars that don't require premium from the factory.
