WTF New bumper - pics

^ Haha. Sounds like a plan. Yea, the guy at the body shop told me in order to ensure that the bumper is perfect, he would probably have to fill, sand, prime at least 2-3 times before he even hits it with a coat of paint.

He also told me that his price is probably a little high, but he guarantees he will fix EVERY little chip...while many other shops will not be as meticulous - like I said, the place is a reputable shop and does work for a lot of the major car dealers in the area.

Also, another thing that concerns me is that I plan to have my current job for a while, so a lot of highway driving is a necessity. Obviously the shop has lifetime warranty on their work, but he said chips will happen again and can basically only hope that the paint holds up better this time.

Anyone know any way to prevent this other than an ugly bra - because I refuse to put one on my car. I don't know much about painting, but is there a way to bake the paint or perhaps some additives so it becomes even harder/more scratch resistant? Will an extra layer of clear help/will it look different?

ive seen on some newer cars..... its like a layer of clear plastic around the front of the car, i guess its there to protect the paint

the clear plastic cover is also called a "chip gaurd"...atleast on mercedes benz.

Ive seen some installed pretty badly and on a light colored car you normally get some "yellowish" discolering. However all in all if you go to sell it or trade it in it will help the value of your car.

listen.... The ONLY thing he needs to do with this bumper is sand it smooth with 2000 grit. If he burns through the paint/primer then he needs to reapply bulldog adhesive promoter. If you don't burn through then just add two coats of paint. You don't need to bake anything. Paints don't need 24 hour bakes anymore, maybe people in Florida are just different. I'm lookin out for his pockets. Why spend 600 dollars on something that will obviously see more rocks?

i can have someone come spray a bumper for 150-200 around my way. Body shops have a way of making their work seem harder. Its just like the computer geeks take advantage of ignorant people. That plastic bumper has no body damage that can't be sanded out. Also... it isn't a black car so any waves in his sanding won't be noticed. just "spray and call it a day"

you could get away with factory paint in a rattle can. Depends on how good your spray pattern is. Paints have come a long way though. Your paint store will answer any questions you have
