World’s Biggest Production Pick-up Truck To Be Unveiled

Warrenville, IL (September 13, 2004) What hauls six tons, can seat a football team’s offensive line and, for kids over 20 who miss playing with trucks in the sandbox, is the ultimate toy for extreme work and play? The International CXT, the world’s biggest production pick-up truck for commercial business owners and the newest truck from International Truck and Engine Corporation.

International, the operating company of Navistar International Corporation (NYSE: NAV) and a leading truck manufacturer, will officially unveil the International CXT on Thursday, Sept. 16, at its plant in Garland, Texas.

“The International CXT brings new meaning to ‘everything is big in Texas,’” said Garland Mayor Bob Day. “There is nothing on the road as bold, strong and tough as this truck, and we are delighted that International Truck and Engine Corporation will manufacture it here in Garland.”

Born out of a 20-ton hauler and other International® severe service trucks used by the construction, government and waste industries, the International CXT is built on the same platform as dump trucks and snowplows. As a result, it is a vehicle unrivaled in capability, size and appearance. It hauls three times the payload of consumer pick-up trucks, is all-wheel drive, uses air brakes for unmatched stopping ability and offers towing, dumping and tilt bed capability. Additionally, it features a spacious interior with crew cab design that seats five and can be customized to meet owners’ specific needs – from paint color to air seats to flat screen TVs. For example, for people who want to make a statement while driving in luxury, try a customized black International CXT with ghosted green flames that has a leather interior with wood grain trim, reclining captain chairs, a fold-down bench that can be used as a bed, an overhead compartment with drop-down DVD, an XM satellite premium radio system and a rear-mounted camera for increased visibility behind the vehicle.

“The International CXT is a truck for businesses that want to promote themselves as much as perform,” said Rob Swim, director, vehicle center marketing strategy, International Truck and Engine Corporation. “While there is nothing tougher or more extreme on the market than the International CXT, it is as much a statement of success as it is performance. If you brought this truck to the playground, you’d be king of the dirt pile.”

In terms of performance, the International CXT features the International® DT 466 diesel engine with a horsepower rating of 220 hp and 540 lb.-ft. of torque capable of hauling or towing pretty much anything you can put into or behind it. Other horsepower ratings are also available. With an electronically controlled turbocharger and four valves per cylinder, the engine delivers responsiveness, acceleration, outstanding fuel efficiency, extended serviceability and long-term durability.

Additionally, despite the tough appearance and powerful engine, there is a smooth side to the International CXT. A smooth-shifting Allison® 2000 Series automatic transmission and standard cab air-suspension (with standard front air seats) provide an exceptionally comfortable ride.

“International built the CXT to make a bold statement,” said Swim. “While we have been building trucks for more than 100 years, International is a company focused on bold growth. The International CXT tangibly demonstrates our brand’s evolution by bringing customers an unmatched innovation that can drive success – on the road and in their business.”

Among businesses for whom the International CXT is ideal: construction, lawn care businesses, lawn and garden stores, brick or stone contractors, home builders, carpenters, landscape designers, roofers, home improvement companies, auto body repair or custom paint shops, commercial boating businesses and boat racers.

:L Not a bad looking truck! I'm just scared that the trendies and soccer-mommies will catch on to this and will terroize the rest of us with it like they did with the H2.Heaven knows, these people cannot be seperated from their cell-phones long enough to realize that their kids just won the soccer match because the other team forfieted when mommy mowed them down in the parking lot of the athletic center. I'm sorry, but I live in one of those neighborhoods where soccer mommies and their monsterous SUV'S thrive and I don't even feel safe in my Town Car on the streets anymore.Soccer mommies should revert back to Volvo wagons and Trendies need to go back to their "new" beetles and PT cruisers! Us people who drive cars like theTown Car ,Fleetwood/DeVille,Roadmaster,Crown Vic/Grand Marquis and even Magnum/300C(2005's) {all large cars included}need to unite and take back the crown to the title of Road Kings that we once were! :soapbox:
*THANK THE GOOD LORD I ONLY DRIVE A TOWN CAR!* :L

Friends don't let friends drive Accords or Camries!
(Please excuse my tyrate, I'm just SUV-SHOCKED, one neighbor has a Suburban, the other owns an Excursion, and the house directly across the street from me has an H2 :slam And then it's little old me with only a Town Car OMG! maybe I finally got a case of size envy  )

Actually, that idea isn't that new. International and Ford have been in cahoots for years on an idea like this.........(notice how the bed on that thing looks like it came straight from a Super Duty F-450?

Ford had built something similar to that over 5 years ago. I think they called it the F-650. It was a 2 ton, crew cab, 4X4, longbed, pickup truck. It had a fuel injected 429, which amazingly got 10mpg! Now, that in itself isn't that impressive, but if you factor in the two 150 gallon drop tanks on either side of the beast, that gives you a range of 3,000 miles! You literally could drive coast to coast on a fill up (nevermind that a fillup will cost you over 600 bucks).

The reason I know this is because I knew a guy in Spokane, WA that actually owned one. He owns a rocket powered dragster that he races, and he needed a new truck to pull the trailer. His friends noticed this beast at the Ford booth, and asked them about it. The told Ford that he needed a truck, and why, and Ford went to talk to him. They made a deal. He agreed to buy the truck for 37,500 dollars (waaaaaaaaay cheaper than normal cost), and Ford agreed to pay him 500 bucks every time he took it to a show (trying to build up a fan base for the vehicle). The truck was a prototype, and hadn't made it to mass production yet, so Ford was looking to get some field research done on popularity. He bought it, and kept it ever since. I got to see it up close and personal a few years ago, and it's about the same size as this new International. His was all black, and it was a mean lookin beast, but completly impractical for day to day use.

Anyway, just my $.02 on the subject. This "new" truck is actually a recycled idea that couldn't gain much steam the first time.

I found some pictures of the F-650, and the funny thing is that they're on the thread I posted on the FVC site about this same subject. Also, there is no way those drop tanks are 150 gal apiece....maybe 40, so I was nuts (not a stretch)

Listed price for the International was 93-119K, depending on options, according to the news reports.

As for cost on the F-650, I don't know. Actually, I don't even know if you can still get it, but I'm sure someone here does.

Too Big and Way to Expensive for me LOL.

Would know what to do with such a big truck.

Really don't know what anyone needs a truck that big! Especially with fuel prices going up up and away!

Wish I was an oil guy from Texas then I could afford a big truck.

Hmmm...

Back about 2 to 3 years ago, there was a new F-650 Supercrewzer up in Macon. A buddy who was riding with me insisted we stop by this dealership and check it out. I agreed so we stopped. Funny reason I remember this is,
is because of the ungodly sum of the pricetag.(to me 88K is a bit much for a overgrown pick-up anyways!) So today,(if they still make them) they'll probably run about 90-95K today. :eek2: (STILL WAY TOO MUCH!)
(That is,
if they are still bieng produced.)
