Won't Start

Ok, My 2000 Lincoln LS V8 will not start. The car cranks and cranks but will not start. This happened a couple of weeks ago and after checking the fuses, relays, fuel pump and other items could not find anything wrong. Finally it started and started everytime until the other day. Again no CEL, no blown fuses, no bad relays. There is no pressure on the fuel rail, so must be the fuel pump. Replaced the fuel pump, still no start. Maybe fuel filter, replaced fuel filter, still no start. Ran the codes, no codes. I am at my wits end. Does anyone have any suggestions?:

First, check the impact fuel cutoff switch in the driver's kick panel. The plunger should be down. If it isn't push it down. Do you have 12V on both sides of this switch?

The REM controls the fuel pump. It won't turn it on if it is bad or if it isn't talking to the PCM. Do the brake lights work?

Is the PCM powered and working? Does it pulse the injectors and the coils?

Are you getting power at the fuel pump?
 
we had an ls in the dealership this past week with a similar issue, it's injectors and fuel rail were full of rust. the car only had 20,000 or so on the clock though, i don't know if this our problem but i would check the injectors, maybe take a fuel sample from the rail and let it sit for a few hours and see if anything settles to the bottom of the cup or whatever you use.

when it ran did it idle okay or was it rough?

It is not the fuel cutoff switch. There is no pressure at the fuel rail. The plug at the fuel pump has 4 pins, I am only getting power on 1 of the 4, do you know where the other 3 are going?

The car was running perfectly, no rough idle, or anything.

I have one hot pin at the fuel pump. No fuel pressure at the fuel filter. Yes the brake lights are working.

Pins 2 (green with orange band) and 4 (black with red band) are the power to the pump. You have to measure the voltage with the red probe on pin 2 and the black probe on pin 4. Both power and ground are switched to the pump, so either could be faulty.

[Pin 1 (white with red band) is the fuel level sender signal. Pin 3 (brown with red band) is the ground for the fuel level sender.]
 
hmmmm

just thought of something, if you have the IAC valve on you throttle body like I do, then it may be faulty or carboned up. When mine went bad, you could crank the engine all day and it would not start, try pushing the gas peddle half way down and try to start it.
 
Well turns out after buying a new fuel pump, fuel filter and several hours of cussing the thing it was a loose connection on the wiring at the fuel pump. I jumped the wires and the car started, therefore indicating a wiring issue. After locating the loose wire and repairing it, the car started fine and runs like new. Thanks to all the LVC help.
