Same symptoms as the last time. 2000 V8.

Cranks steady but wont start. Last time it was a fuse for the fuel pump this time I actually heard the fuel pump prime like a funny brief humming sound.

I tossed a very small dash of gas in the TB and still nothing.

So now what are some things to trouble shoot. Im guessing if the engine was seized or something it wouldn't crank? I dont know what to think Im stumped and starting to think the worst.

Im thinking just maybe a bad MAF at best:confused:

What would cause my car not to spark? Could it be no vacuum? Can I have someone turn the key over and would I feel some suction if I put my hand over the intake with the filter off for a second?

Thanks guys.

Could it be a bad ignition coil? Sounds on point. Got great power to the car but she wont kick over just cranks a smooth and steady pace.

The last time this hapend I ran out of gas. I filled up the tank got it running, no check engine light but while I was just out warming it up one day it stalled. Low and behold it was a fuse for the fuel pump.

I had no check engine light or anything this time either how ever I may have just not noticed it. I had problems with my battery and dont use this car much over the winter so I disconnect the battery. Regardless without the car running I wouldnt see a check engine light even if disconnecting the battery wouldnt have reset it. Besides if it wont run I cant get it in to pull a code.

Crank position sensor.

Yup. That's my guess, too.

Could be a flaky connection or just a bad sensor. I had the same kinda problem on my 95 LSC. Turned out to be a wiring issue.

It's on the side of the block, passenger side towards the front I would guess. That's where it was on my LSC.

As long as its not next to those f*cking exhaust bearings.

Either that or a cam position sensor, but I don't know if one of those going bad would prevent the car form starting altogether. The Crank position sensor is usually on the side of the block. Where it is exactly on the LS I wouldn't know.

This probably doesn't help much but it ca give you a general idea of what to look for.

The round part sticks into the block so you wont see that.

Oh god, what the hell is that?
:p

It works like an ABS wheel sensor, except that it reads the position of the crankshaft while its turning. It relays that signal to the PCM which then tells the ignition coils to fire.

At O'Reilly Auto Parts for $47.99. I'm sure someone here can tell you where it is and how to replace it.

You could have it towed to the dealer for $75 plus pay them $100 or more to diagnose or try one or two parts that are known causes of this problem for less than $100. That's what I'd do.

At this point I think Im gunna have it towed VIA AAA and get a diagnostics, they charge me 50$ since I got the car there and its normally only 60 something. Then Im gunna have it towed back and do the work my damn self:shifty:

Ok so we got one subject to look into for this mystery so what is the other.

You speak of two.

I wanna go down and look but its to dark out. I did mess with my intake tube after the last time I drove it to clean the filter which is why I suddenly suspect the MAF but the contact or what have you looks ok. Hopefully I just knocked this CPS off but if you can tell me what else you have in mind that would be great then I can just check both first thing in the morning.

Where the hell is this thing?

I cant find it at all unless its deep in the valley.

I think someone mentioned a cam position sensor. That was #2.

So their is a Cam position sensor and a Crank position sensor:confused:

Correct!!! :D

You are looking UNDER the car for the crank position sensor right? Because you ain't nevah gonna find it looking on top. It has to be close to the crankshaft to be able to read the gear that tells it the position.

Oh ok. I read somewhere on the web that it was actually located some where in the valley/under the intake man. but off to the passenger side and someone said it was right in front but off to the passenger side.

Quicks SC thread is about all I found on the entire internet that has even that much detail to the motor being pulled apart:Bang , and its not even really that much apart!

Shoot a PM to Mrzeee or Teamford and see if they can help you out with the location. They got all the cool computers with the cool ford exploded views of all this kinda stuff.

I swear I would blow one of the exploded views up as big as I can in the highest res possible if I can find one and when we move I'll hang the damn thing on the garage wall. I'm sick of trying to find the little things in the engine bay. Its so cluttered IMO!

Me I am still having problem went cold. I have change the Crank sensor… It is located almost at the on the front left side of the engine. You will see the main pulley it rite on is left side facing the front of the engine.
In my case it did not fix the problem. I am still investigating some one mention IAC valve. I ear the fuel pump it work. Next the flow return and then fuel Pump. Hope it help.
