i took my car (03 lsv8 prem sport) to circuit city to that roadshop thing to install aftermarket sirius unit i didnt feel like doing all that myself id rather just pay. the first time they did it all right except they hooked up to a wire that stays on constantly, i specifically asked for one that goes on and off with the car. so i took it back in and told them while their at it since they f'd up to wire up my v1 radar(which is by the way the best investment ive ever made EVER). they said i shouldnt do so,that the two units hooked to the same wire could cause problems since the wire in the ls is dental floss thin or something along those lines. i told them to shutup and do it anyway just because i was pissed how i had to go in a 2nd time for their ineptness. anyway can this cause problems, having both the sirius and v1 hooked up to the same wire? and to what? gracias

maybe you should have listened to the pro you paid to do the job

i dont consider some punk kid who does this as an after school job a pro. and maybe i dont like having to reach up over my dash everytime i get in my car to turn something on and off, and if i pay a "pro" $95 to do something for me, i expect them to do it how we agreed they would do it, the right way, the first time i ask them. i think thats something a "pro" can handle dont you think?

The "punk kid" could be right though. There are a lot of factors at play which you've not given us. What did the wire supply, what was it gauge, how many strands did it contain, what is the draw of your sat. radio and what is the draw of your V1?

Keep in mind that you can only pull so many amps through one wire and that number depends on a couple things: first of which is the size (gauge) of the wire. Second would be the number of strands in the wire (up to a point, a higher number of strands gives a bit higher amp rating). The LS doesn't have "paper thin wire"; it runs off a 12 Volt electrical system so it requires the same wire to run a 10amp circuit that any other car requires.

The question is, was adding those two components an increase on the load of the wire beyond what its rated for? If so, best case scenario, you keep blowing fuses for that circuit. Worst case scenario, you get an electrical fire.

Most installers are just following the book or computer that tells them what wires to use and everything. So im guess that the first time they hooked it up they were simply following the proper instructions. But like NateRW21 said, ideally the fuse should blow before the electrical draw becomes a problem. But thats idea, you could also have that wire melt inside your dash and start a fire. So just in case I would keep a bag of marshmallows in the trunk. You could be in for a good show lol.

ok...to follow up since i cant give enough info on the wiring and stuff like that and im only getting hassled on here for what, i dont know.(sorry if when i pay a ridiculous amount for a simple service to be done and it is done incorrectly when its made specific what i want i get a little ticked.) i took my car to a freind of mine who is a ford mechanic, he took it apart and checked the job they did, they did in fact do it right the second time around with what i asked to be done and the wire they hooked it to which goes on and off with the car can more than handle it. and the wire they originally hooked just the sirius too couldnt have, so yeah i am kind of glad i went in and complained. sorry if i caused some sort of malice toward me, i thought it'd be a simple question and someone could relate with dealing with real shotty service

That tends to be the problem with circuit and bet buy around here, the hiring standards aren't high enough. I'd be aggravated to, and it may have been either a mistake or a result of laziness, but putting a radar detector and a sirious piece on the same wire should ALMOST never be a problem. there are plenty of people running 1-4 ciggarate lighter adaptors, that run a whole lot more... a real pro would have done it right the first time, and would also be able to tie the two together.....

Don't think I was giving you a hard time, I was just giving you a reason why he'd have said what he did.

And they are asking for problems... Just like the guy that runs a ton of powerstrips off one outlet

Problem #1, you took your car to bestbuy/circuit city. Problem #2, you tried arguing with a kid that hasn't finished high school yet or won't ever grace the presence of a college professor. #3 DONT GO TO BEST BUY OR CIRCUIT CITY FOR INSTALLS, they are AWFUL. You could have done a better job yourself by reading a little 2 page how-to. Trust me, I used to work at best buy, I know how they hire, I know how the operate, it's worse than you think. They read from a book and do step-by-step instructions that most of the time are Universal and not car-specific instructions.

I also had the V1 hard wired to come on with the ign switch. But I took my car to Pro Stereo shop that has been in Business for over 15 yrs and does alot of nice custom work. It took the guy about 10 min to run the wire to the fuse box and find the right hotwire to tap into. I like this guys work. It called SOUNDTECH in Bell, CA. It just little place with good reputation.

i understand and beleive me i learned my lesson, i usually mess around with car and have no problem but electrical stuff in cars i dont mess with. even the kids at best buy who i dont trust but they do know more than i do about that, i was just pissed at the quality of service i received after paying nearly $100 for something simple because i dont have the knowledge or balls to mess with stuff myself, thanks for the input i do appreciate it and im glad there is a website like this for two good classic american car companies
