Okay, I'm hoping someone can give me some insight here that will prevent me from replacing the entire motor!

This winter I had a bit of a problem where my wipers wouldn't move at a decent rate of speed. Actually, they moved slower than a "normal" slow setting on a three speed wiper switch. But they only did this once in a while, and when summer showed up, they went back to normal. I figured perhaps some condensation on the auto wiper sensor or something crazy. But I did notice they stopped going totally back to the correct rest position where they would be on top of the heated rests.

Well, Thursday they just stopped all together. What happens is they move about an inch and a half at best, typically just kind of a jerk (I can best compare this to someone trying to lift a max bench press of about 50lbs more than they can actually do; they might move the bar a HAIR from the racked position then give up after their moment of attempt/exertion to just budge the bar has failed).

I tried every setting on the switch, fuses are all good, unplugged the auto sensor, retried all switch settings... same thing every time.

So, any ideas? I'm about to just order another motor!

Check the connector on the motor for corrosion first. Most wiper motors can be taken apart without much trouble, so if you can manage to get it out, try taking it apart and cleaning it.

Wiper relays

Remove wiper relays also and clean posts. They corrode. The multifunction turn signal switch is also know to go bad.

I believe that the motor, position switches, transmission, and electronic module are in one assembly (the motor assembly). It sounds like a failure in that assembly.

I'll have a go at it with the electrical connections; if it fails I guess it's the assembily. Anymore input, feel free to throw it out there.

Well here's a curve-ball...

It's not the motor or sensors or connections or anything electrical at all. The right pivot pin seized in the aluminum bracket. Apparently this whole assembly is called that "transmission". Anyway, I'll be needed to replace it! Gonna see if the local dealer will price-match team ford tomorrow... I'd like to have my wipers again, ASAP!
