Winter Tires

Suspension? Are you sure? I found adjustable coilovers for the T-Bird.

Sorry for the off topicness.

15's would fit but are they big enough tires?

It would also help to state what size the tires are.

15's would fit, 14's would fit and so on and so on but the only thing holding those back would be the tires. The smaller the wheel the more tire. The larger the wheel the less tire.

Not to throw a wrench in the works but... there could be a front brake clearance issue with the 15's.... and I'd pretty much bet money there would be with the 14's

There really is no way to adjust the speedo on these cars; your uncle is thinking in terms of older, conventional speedo sensors and pick-ups.

Good point. I wasnt even thinking about that.

I was pretty sure a tuner or the dealer could change the setting for the speedo to adjust for wheel/tire size.

No?

Good call on the brake clearance. Did the T-Bird also share braking systems with the LS?

I have a set of Mark VIII wheels with snows on my car right now, they are the 16 in snowflake wheels and I can tell you that 15 in wheels will not clear the brakes. I need to get a set of spacers so I can put a full brake pad on the outside of the caliper to clear the wheel, it is extremely tight, but it does work.

They had same braking systems, but were just a tad bit smaller. We know for sure that 16's will fit just fine, but that, like you guys said, the 15's might have issues with the larger brakes in the front. But he said to try on the 15's in front, if they bolt on like my normal wheels they will work just fine, otherwise, they're junk.

On a similar note, since we are talking about other cars' wheels that fit, the second gen ('92-'95) SHO "turbine" wheels fit also. I had those on my car last winter with snow tires on them. But I too needed a tad more clearance with the front brakes. The wheels bolted on fine and actually spun all the way around, but they rubbed ever so slightly. So I threw some 1/16th inch thick washers around the studs, and no more issues. :D

As I recall, no one has been able to sucessfully adjust the speedo... I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is an "in-stone" setting.

Could very well be. I don't know for sure. I just thought I had recalled a previous discussion concerning calibrating a speedometer to different size wheels/tires.
