windshield wiper issue

wipers won't go into the park position... They in turn stop in front of my face when I put I into the park position on the stalk. Any ideas? I may have turn the key off with out turning off the wipers over night but I don't tho k that has anything to do with it...

I had this happen. In my case one of the arms was disconnected. Motor was fine, it was just a linkage issue. They ran fine though too, just park was the issue.

where is exactly on the arm would it be disconnected. Do you have to take off the cowl?

Could be the multi-disfunction switch as well.

Mine acts up occasionally when the intermittent setting is selected. In some settings, they park - and won't wipe at all.

We manage though, by selecting another setting. Could be the problem with yours.

Right, but what I'm suggesting is an electrical issue inside the switch. Such as a failure to register that you've asked the wipers to park when you select that setting. It still thinks you're asking for wipe settings.

Just an idea, I'm not saying that's your issue with any degree of certainty, but a possibility.

If they go strait up instead of tucking in when parked only it is most likely a mechanical issue. Do a search and you can probably find a thread with pictures. It is not with the motor itself but the only way to get the part is to get the motor assembly.

Funnily enough, Abe, wiper brings up plenty of relevant results. Just be sure to narrow the search to Mark VIII.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the point lol...

I would pop the arms off and take off the cover of the wiper cowl and take a look and see if everything appears to be working correctly mechanically, something might look out of place and be obvious.

I took off the blades and the cowl and lubed a bunch of stuff but it still does it. What should I be lubing? The part on top of the motor or the arms? I did it all with oil and liquid wrench... It still does it. I turn off and on and it went back after a rotation of the motor! But if I just turn em off they wont park, something looks funky on top of the motor where that cottor pin is that the main arm attatches to.

Mine did that a few weeks ago because I was lazy and just shut the car off with them on.

I guess it was my lincoln's way of telling me it didn't like me doing that to it

What I did was on my way home I had them running at full speed and then shut them off when I got home, and they went into park. I guess I just confused the switch and motor or something...

mine did this because i turned my car off without turning the wipers off.... Thanks for the post im going to read this after work! Mine won't go back into park unless I turn them off and on a couple times at the right sweet spot to let it engage in the park while there wiping

having trouble removing that white/grey plastic cap that covers the bolt that holds the arm mechanism thinger to the motor. Any ideas?

ok well i just hit with a screw driver repeatedly till it came off. I took off this

. I cleaned it with PB blaster real good. I'm assuming this middle turning circular piece does not come out. I pushed the spring loaded thing that keeps it locked in place in and moved it around seeing a decent amount of grit in there. I did my best to get it all out scraping it. I pb blastered the hell out of it.

I put it all back together, and didn't really do anything. I got a better idea by seeing how the park feature works and it was making a TICK CLICK sound. I thought ok let me try greasing this with lithium grease. I schmutzed it as best I could, that and the thing this piece sits on.

Messing with it some more I heard some messed up sounds, and now even if i play with the wipers it doesn't go down to park anymore. I must have busted it even further, I severely doubt the reason it won't park is because of that silver piece pictured above, it definitely has to be the motor. I just detatched the clip that holds the wiper arm to that cam and manually pushed the wipers back into their position. If it rains ill just pop the clip back on and viola until I get another motor.

Any suggestions? I can't imagine getting this lubed any further than what it is. The only way would be to remove that inner circular metal piece, and im pretty sure thats pressed in there.
