Am I the only one this happens to ?

On my 1990 TC when I squirt the windshield washing fluid onto the window I suddenly smell the washer fluid blowing in through my vents/A/C.

At first the squirters were aimed too low and barely made it onto the window. Being a hamfisted amateur I stuck a dental type pick in them and both enlarged them and pulled upward.

That actually worked at getting them to squirt where they're supposed to, but the smell is still present in the ventilation system whenever I squirt the windshield.

Is there some kind of shield or plastic cover I am missing, that maybe the last owner removed ? I can't picture a car with the obvious quality of a Lincoln being built this way to allow the washer fluid to drain into the vent system.

Any help appreciated
