My car hates the cold.
Everytime I use it, something breaks now.

Freezing rain today, ice all over the car. I turn the defrost on before and then return inside, I planned on warming up the interior and melting some of the ice on the windows.

THE WINDOW CRACKED!
there were no small cracks of rock chips prior.

As I'm driving, I see a hairline crack running horizontal across the windshield.
I'm left to assume the the hot defrost air against the ice caused this thing to crack.

I can't feel it from the inside, and it's can barely be felt from the outside, but I can see the crack.

How difficult is it to replace the giant front windshield?
How much do they usually cost? And how much did it cost to have it done by a pro?

I don't know if I want to deal with insurance on this.

If you go with OEM glass they are 400.00ish dollars.

if you use one of the "come to you and replace your window" services, they will put an aftermarket windshield in {your local prices will vary)

We got one installed on a car in our parking lot at work for 149.00

The aftermarket window didn't look bad either.

i had mine done in my old blue 93. they came to me, installed it in the driveway, cost me $175 installed.

I used to work for a glass/trim company. It's on average 150-170 installed. Just make sure nobody eff's up your side trim moldings..

Pretty much the same thing happened to my Crown Vic last winter. Although I had already been driving, spent a couple minutes at a gas station, then came out, turned on the defrost, and crack goes the windshield.

I was quoted $140 for the Vic, $170 for my Mark VIII (asked because I was curious.)

And Calabrio... don't you think that pic is a bit big for a signature?

My friend took his 93 Mark through the car wash in the summer time & his window cracked as well. He got a quote from safelite for $160 installed. Sorry to hear your window cracked, it would have really pissed me off.
