Can anyone recommended a windshield wiper blade/refill for higher mileage Gen2s (75,000+) ?

My experience with wiper blades has not been positive probably due to the normal micro-pitting of the windshield. The smearing effect and squeaking during rain, even with new blades, makes replacements look like a poor investment. My mother used to curse (nicely) the smearing on her 1994 Lincoln Town Car windshield speculating that it was a manufacturer defect.

Perhaps a good quality blade matched with a glass polish to smooth out the pitting ?

I am pretty sure ANCO is the brand I switched to after trying many. And I have used them since.

Polishing glass is an art and must be done VERY carefully. Done wrong and you will cause more problems than its worth.

The #1 cause of windshield issues in rain are those stupid car washes that apply wax. Anyone who applies wax that way is in idiot in my book (no offense if you do). Wax needs to be applied to specific areas. If its applied to rims or chrome parts it will cause issues. Either pitting or in the the case of chrome, milky appearance. And of course on glass it simple coats it and traps stuff in. Never, ever use wax at a car wash!

With that said try buying a clay bar used for detailing cars. This stuff is great to use! Use it on the windshield as you would on the body panels. It will remove all sorts of stuff and most, if not all, of the wax. The put on some new blades.

If you do above, you will be happy. I used to have the same issue and after much reading found that the wax was the issue. I did above and never had an issue since!
