Window off Tracks

My rear driver-side window is stuck halfway down. I can hear the motor trying to roll it up/down, but it won't move, leading me to believe it's just came off the tracks. I've tried messing with it to try to get it back on the tracks, but it won't even lift any higher than it currently is. I'd take the door panel off and try to figure it out, but I've heard there are clips or something on the LS that are basically one-time use only and knowing me, I'll take the panel off and be stuck because of some stupid sh it like that.
So basically my point with this thread; how's door panel removal on this car work? Is there an easy fix for this problem?

And a quick off-topic question: what is the most common size for wheels on the LS? Would 17's look stupid?
 
Its not hard to get the panel off. And that one time use thing isn't true, well at least not mine.
U must be brand new to seeing an ls cuz plenty have 17s. Sport wheels r 17s. Just don't get aftermarket rims for your stock tires lol
 
The door trim panel comes off like any other car door trim panel. Just be careful when pulling it off and use a flat tip screw driver gingerly if you need some extra force to pop it off (once all screws are removed of course) from there you should be able to get a look at what you are dealing with. Just remember how everything goes back together as you take it apart. The window has a little pin at the bottom where it attaches to the regulator. It sounds like that has popped out and the window is no longer attached to the regulator. It is pretty common with these cars.

Also, most of the stock wheels for the LS were 17" a couple were 16". I don't know if you mean would it look stupid as in would the 17" wheels look too small? If changed from stock most people run 17"-20" on these cars.

i rip my panel off atleast once a month

well I took it off and found the problem; the spool or whatever you want to call it isn't wrapping the wire that drives the window up and down. it's all twisted up to the left of that plastic wheel. I don't think i can fix it myself, so I guess I'll have do get a dealer to do it which is going to suck.
I'll post a pic after I get inside.

the left-most circle shows where it's wound up at. off the spool and between it and the metal sh it beside it.
the other circle shows the end of the wire, what i think it supposed to be wrapped around the wheel on the top of the track. i couldn't get enough slack though to get it to reach that high because it was twisted so badly.
 
U can do it, its not hard. And besides u got the panel off already lol. And like I wrote Before , jus don't get aftermarket with stock tires. On bigger cars it looks wack. But the wheels look nice to me
 
well i've already put the panel back on, now.
and honestly even if it were possible for me, i'd have no clue how to break everything down that far. just doing what i did was a pretty big stretch for me haha, i've never even worked on a car before.

if i did go get the parts from a junkyard though i'm not sure how i'd be able to install them. i'd have to pull every component from the window out, swap them, then jam it all back in and i don't think i have enough faith in myself to pull it off. not that i'm keen on paying a shi tload of money to a dealership, but i don't think i have much of a choice.

and yeah i know about the tires, i just didn't feel like posting them. i really want some low-pro's, but was they didn't have them at either site, so whatever. are those prices alright though?

what's up with the word filter? this is a car site, so i'd assume everyone here would have a car, which leads me to believe they've got to be at least 16, and i'm fairly certain by that age they're fully exposed to basically every nefarious word in the english language. why does there need to be a stupid filter?
 
You need the "window regulator." It's not hard to install. An hour of your time could save you $200 to $300.

Because most of don't want to read that junk. Is the vocabulary of those under 30 so poor that vulgarity must be used to make a point? Besides, what's wrong with manners, civility and decorum?

There also children that read blogs. One doesn't need to own a car to talk or read about them.

I haven't had the need, but from what I've read replacing the regulator isn't that tough a job. Are you mechanically inclined? You were able to remove the door panel (or card for our British friends) so you have some aptitude here. Why not give it a try? At worst you take the regulator to your neighborhood mechanic and at best you did it yourself and saved over $100. Oh, get a new one. Not one from a junkyard. One from a wreck is suspect.
