As noted here earlier I upgraded the front brakes of my '05 LS to 14" 6 pot Wilwoods about 6 months ago and pretty much immediately went to work getting the rears done. Well, they're done, 13" rotors with the Wilwood parking brake caliper. I could have gone with something way more serious for a caliper, like a 4 pot that would take a 1.1X13" rotor but I wanted to retain the parking brake function so I chose the parking brake caliper and the 1"X13" rotor.

My thanks to Todd at TCEPerformance.com for some real creative quality work. He now has the adapters for both the front and rear available and anyone interested should be able to contact him through his site.

Nice work. Is that setup more expensive or cheaper that the big break setup LSKoncepts has for sale?

I spoke with Todd about the kit. The kit is really not comparable to the StopTech so it really isn't comparing apples to apples. The Wilwood kit looks great but the biggest difference is the rear kit. StopTech uses a 4 piston caliper WITH the factory parking brake. The Wilwood kit is only utilizing the parking brake caliper as its stopping caliper. That is the big difference.

It has been widely known and documented by the Ford engineers that the rear brake system on the Lincoln LS works just as hard as the front. This is what separates the LS from other makes.

After speaking with Todd at great lengths, the cost for the front and rear Wilwood system would be around $3800 compared to $5000 for the StopTech. Now, the difference in price is the rear system.

Both systems have fitment issues with the stock rims. The StopTech system states that you MUST use at least 18" wheels with their system. I had fitment issues with my StopTech system that was on my LS. The biggest issue was offset and wheel stud length. The Wilwood kit looks to have a little better fitment but you would NOT be able to use the stock rims.

I think both kits have merit. I'm going to talk with Todd some more about making a Wilwood kit for the LS. However, cost is an issue for most folks.

You almost NEED that because of the weight balance of the DEW98 chassis. Its probably The BEST balanced car Ford had on the U.S. market when it hit the road. Come to think of it, it might still be.

If they tried to put in a brake system like they used in the Focus or the Escort where the rear brakes do hardly a thing, the LS would never stop.

Todd is an awesome guy to deal with for stuff like this. I'm working on a 12.5" system for the front my '64 Riviera. They may be customish stuff but with Todds equpiment he can gen you up a replacement set or give others stuff with minimal delay.

I found the fronts alone solved the problem I felt with the stockers when needing fairly serious stabs from speeds over 85. The car stock disappointed me with how vaguely it responded to serious high speed braking, I feel confident with this set up now and have no issues driving the car more up to it's potential.

I'm sure a 4 pot rear caliper had more potential but even the route I took won't disappoint, I'm sure the 13" rotor will take quite a bit more heat than the stock ones will and from the asthetics point of view, well ........icing on the cake.
