Well my LS6`s tranny is :q:q:q:qting the bed. It needs an input shaft bearing, and output shaft bearing. My dealer called Ford directly and Ford stated that there arent any parts available for servicing nor do they make them. My questions are as followed.

1. If I brought my car to a transmission shop, would they be able to "rebuild" the bearings?

2. I found this adapter that can convert the bell housing of an LS6 an mate it to a Ford T5 tranny. do you guys think this is at all possible?

Here is the adapter

If all it needs are bearings, a good transmission shop should be able to rebuild your transmission without too much trouble.

As for the bellhousing, shoot, anything's possible. You'll also need something to adapt the transmission mount, and you'll need a clutch that will fit the D30 and mate to the T5 or Tremec (though I'm guessing it exists, given the bellhousing). The big questions are whether or not the bellhousing and T5 will fit in the LS's transmission tunnel and where the shifter comes through the floorpan.

I'm guessing that having a tranny shop do a rebuild is going to be quite a bit less expensive than switching to a T5 or Tremec; there's no fabrication involved in the rebuild.

well i guess my best bet is to have it rebuilt. Im wondering if he can rebuild the bearings and maybe resurface the flywheel. When ever I shift into another gearing you can hear all kinds of noises from the tranny. And when I am on the highway say going 80ish you can hear the bearings sound like the r dried out.

If you can convert to T5 they are good and cheap transmissions. Ill tell you (I am not kidding here) I went through 2 C4s and 13 AOD transmissions in my 71 mustang in a 6 year period (up to $1300 each). Three years ago I put a Borg Warner World CLass T5 trans ($350) in it from an 88 Mustang and it is still in there. The WC T5 TQ rating is only 265 ft lbs (I am over 400 in the stang) and it has held up under the same driving conditions. I did ruin a stock clutch within about 1000 miles of driving, but with a good clutch the internals seem to hold up real well. Downside?....It shifts like crap because of the mechanical clutch linkage I am using. Probably better with a hydraulic setup.
