Hi everyone!

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS, V6, base sedan.

I'm looking for a relatively cheap way to connect (for example) my iPhone to the factory radio and play music.

One option I'm considering is swapping out the current factory CD/radio unit (CD player doesn't work) with a similar unit that has a cassette player instead of CD. That way I get one of those cassette adapters and connect it to my iPhone for music playback.

Already tried the FM transmitter and it only works about half of the time (rest of the time other radio stations take over).

Also considered upgrading to an aftermarket radio with bluetooth, aux, etc but the cost is too high when you add the radio, mounting kit, and steering wheel controls.

My question is will a factory cassette/radio unit from a 2000 or 2001 LS work in my 2002 LS?

If so do I need any special wiring harness? Or will my current harness plug into the cassette/radio unit and work?

Thanks!

You are going to find yourself seriously disappointed in the lack of quality when attempting to utilize cassette adapters to iPhone for playback.

I'd be willing to put money on it without as much as having tried and true'd it here myself.

Further more, please lower pants, bend over and get ready to receive your bottom spanking for even suggesting to revert to cassette.

I'm teasing here so do not get bend all out of shape Bud!

Others will chime in with the correct method and Aux adapter. It's been done before. As a matter of a fact, my wife's 03 has this mod from the PO whom was a member here and even made a post w/pics about it. Don't have that handy right now, I'm sure it can be searched for.

Do the cassette adapters even work in the LS stock Head Units? I tried one on the 2004 Town Car and it would not work as the Head Unit could not detect tape movement. I ended up installing the IS77 iPod/iPhone adapter and have been quite pleased. The IS77 attaches to the antenna port on the back of the Head Unit and then the antenna plugs into it - making the IS77 first in line. By far the best FM Modulator you can get.

And although I rarely drive the Town Car these days, I haven't switched the IS77 to the LS as I have a functioning CD6.

The general answer is, yes you can swap around factory radios between 2000, 2001, and 2002 LSes. However, it is more difficult if you want to swap Alphine for non-Alphine or the other way around.

I think it would be way better (sound quality wise) to keep your existing radio and add a direct input adapter to it. Here is one for example: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_541PXDP/PAC-iSimple-PDXP-Adapter.html
However, I don't know if this one supports newer (iPhone 5 and up) iPhones.

please god please don't use a cassette adapter!

on the cheap, bluetooth adapter with fm modulator connection (no HF phone call ability) $55

same thing as above but with the ability to make and receive phone calls hands free $77

both use the newest version of BT for great sound quality, going though FM is the only place you lose sound quality with is still many times better than a cassette adapter.

however I would just spend the $150-$170 for a decent aftermarket radio with all the parts.
