why is my mark so slow

I have a 94 mark and it is running very sluggish sometimes it halls ass off the start and keeps going if i keep my foot in it but if i let off at all and try to get it again i get what feels like a 4 banger instead of a v8. Our cars are supposed to be fastest after 30 but mine is not feels like its trying to go but wont but anything from 0 to 20 if i punch it it goes but after 20 if i punch it its slow what the hell is going on no check engine lights or anything what do you guys think?

try changeing the fuel filter. if that doesnt help, get a fuel pressure test done. possible new fuel pump needed. thats where id start.

Is it downshifting when you punch it. could be the irmc stickiing. I know my 94 ran like a raped ape stock. ran a 9.63 my gen2 's best was a 9.70 with a tune on it. or the fuel pump i assure you the fuel filter is original.
