Another speaker question you might ask, I've searched a little bit, don't know how long to search before considering a new thread but anyways.

Why is it called an 8, 10, or 12 speaker system? I don't have the base model or the THX system. I have the center speakers, the one's in the doors, and the speakers on the rear deck. Brings the total to 8 if I added correctly.

Should I go play in traffic or what's going on here. Only reason I ask is I have a blown door speaker and I want to do the whole shebang, speakers and double din when I can. Any suggestions in that department would kindly be accepted although I know questions/threads like these are often the target of hate and ridicule.

Thanks gang.

Each door speaker is counted as two (they are 2-way speakers). That gives you 12 with the 2 subs and 2 in the front. Some have the subs but not the fronts, that makes 10. And you can figure out how to get 8...

its kinda cheating counting the component plate style speaker as two since its one enclosed unit, but then again, factory sound systems all just had a bunch of 1 way speakers not that long ago.

After reading elsewhere thats what it mentioned the alpine system had. I don't have the alpine system, unless alpine is codenamed soundmark on my 6 disk changer. Was looking into a pioneer double din and doing the speakers. More research to come, and I'd like to do the install myself, never done it before. Should I take it somewhere to have it done, or is it pretty simple? I'm pretty handy.

If I am not mistaken, Audiophile and Soundmark are Alpine even though Sony's name came up on some research I did. I did do ALOT of research. If you look at pre 2003 radios with the 6 disc changer some actually say Alpine. They look exactly like the Audiophile and Soundmark. None of those had cassette players as well.

they are all ford "products", none of them are alpine or sony "products" basicaly alpine liscences them a deck to use in their cars, now as fow the speakers those companies use to make those parts and sell them to the other companies for oem stuff, my 81 pontiac had some in it and I can't remember the name of the company. Were as my brothers ford F-150 says ford right on the back of the speaker, I want to say they were audiophiles. But I don't recal seeing any apline stamps anywhere on the deck it self when i took it apart other than the disc slot.

The optional radio on 2000-2002 was Alpine, on 2003 and up the optional radio was Soundmark with an additional option of the THX nav/audio system.

The Alpine system and the Soundmark system are very much the same, if not identical.

Except for the fact that they're not at all interchangeable. ;)

The THX system is (as best I can recall) the only 10-speaker system in the LS--they omitted the center imaging speakers up front for that system.

Also, from what I'm told, Alpine had nothing to do with the "Alpine" system in the 1st Gen LS; apparently, Lincoln only licensed the Alpine name. I don't recall who made the SoundMark "Audiophile" system in the 2nd Gens, but Denso made the head unit for the THX/Nav system.

You probably mean the head units/wiring are not interchangeable.

Some of the speakers are interchangeable. In fact the subs in the Apline system are the same part number as the subs in the THX system. I know because I had to replace one right before I got rid of my 02 and the part number on the subs in my 06 are the same. All the other speakers in the 06 have THX on them however. Also all the speakers in the MKX also have the THX logo on them as well.
