I just noticed my LS does not have the chrome on the front or rear bumpers. Is this common for a 2002 ls v8 with all options

Common for the Sport model.

All sports don't have chrome on the bumpers, plenty of the LSs are sports.

Not really. There are a lot of 00-02 V8 sport models out there with the same bumpers as yours.
