Who to get a tune from?

I do agree with "you get what you pay for," but I don't think you can say "well $400 will get you a crappy tune" if that's what you are implying? Maybe I'm wrong but $400 seems like a lot to improve shifts and get slightly better throttle response. Not to mention the 200+ on exhaust and 200+ on K&N.
I get that it's not a great tune, but it's not really a price thing - it's more of an availability thing. I don't know of any shops around here that do real dyno tuning so this seems to be the next best thing.

You should tune by A/F ratio. Track times don't mean a thing if it only makes it down the 1320 once because the A/F ratio was too lean. I found that one out myself a few years ago ;)

That said, Josh, I say find someone who can dyno tune YOUR car. Maybe those guys where we had that dyno day a few years ago? Email/canned tunes are garbage. I found that out with the 300. Best money I ever spent on it was getting the car tuned on a dyno.

Not gonna happen. Rear end is already being replaced.

As for the custom tuning, Ive yet to try it all out because of the rear diff situation, still gotta wire in my WIDEBAND, then tune. Oh and I tune by tracktimes, not dyno numbers.

See what I did there? Lol

You should get the ProRacer package like me ;)

+ a bazillion!!!!

i spent a grand on the software AND hardware and to this day, 5 years later i dont regret spending that money and would spend it again tomorrow without hesitation.

Buy it then sell us some pirated copies  That should pay for your expense and maybe get you some help rebuilding your thrashed rearend.

yea that would be lovely and all

'cept it requires a hardware key (dongle) to make it work.

so...THAT wont work but thanks for playin!!!

lol

this IS FACT

you lean it out it'll go faster..
so you cant just keep adding timing or pulling fuel until the doesnt speed up...because it WILL blow up, before it begins to slow down.

also track "times" are moot, pointless numbers that ONLY reflect how good your traction is...the TRUE measure of power is MPH

It was a general statement guys... Nit picking bastards.. :D

yea well we gotta watch out for the n00bs that might stumble across that comment and think ET or track times have any bearing on evaluating a tune.

I'm jus' sayin'

lol

I was under the impression that buying an xcal from torrie comes with 3 LS tunes for $400 total. Since I've been on this site I've seen nothing but positives about these tunes and now this thread seems to make it sound like it's not worth it. I'm not looking to make a drag car outta my LS, but I am looking to clean up the shifts, improve throttle response, and add a bit more power. I already have exhaust and a K&N FIPK.

Getting a tune and xcal from torrie or ILLS is cheaper than a dyno tune. It is NOT a waste of money, we are just saying a dyno tune is better than a custom tune from a far since a dyno tune has the car there to work with to get the most out of the car and test it, not just guess in a way.

Pete doesnt know what the hell he's even talking about, he's like Yankees followers, jumping on the bandwagon.

You dyno tune using the SCT. I would dyno tune it, but do not know of anyone that I can trust to know what they are doing with the LS.

Lidio from alternative auto would be a good reccomendation from me...

it's up to you, but he specializes in ford... he told me he could do it up no problem, he says it's in the SCT database as well

http://www.alternativeauto.com/

apples and oranges... but he's the one that has been producing stalled/built automatic and modded trilogy supercharged mercury merauders run 11's and trap around 120MPH

IMO if you own a ford... this guy gets my vote as the guy to go to

also track "times" are moot, pointless numbers that ONLY reflect how good your traction is...the TRUE measure of power is MPH

negative... the ET is everything as traction is HUGE part of ANY racing, if you can't put the power to the ground don't whine when you get called out to race from a stop IMO.

(I WILL give you the MPH reflects power... but that isn't the case when it comes to the entirety of racing IMO)

racing has, and forever will be a sport based on whoever crosses the finish line first...and in that spirit people should man up and race from a dig, if you want a roll go to the bakery

but then again, that is all opinion... in moderating different automotive sites this is a neverending debate... you get the top end cars (usually big turbo FWD cars) telling everyone that MPH is the only thing that matters and then you have the guys that only make 400-500RWHP almost running 9"s @ 128-130MPH and cutting 1.3-1.4 60ft's on their slicks and skinnies that say the opposite... I've just always been a firm believer in the 1320' and whoever gets the win light... that's all she wrote

one thing I always found hilarious is the wishy washy members on my forums that have a decent power RWD muscle car and talk crap to the the turbo FWD car about going from a stop, and then tell the STI/Evo guys that they prefer a roll within the same month xD

Well my choice would still be Torrie at Fast Parts Network considering he has probably done 100's of tunes for the LS & has been doing them for many years as well & is trusted by this site. They also specialize in Ford & everything has been top notch with my experience's with them.

that's why I said it was up to him.... I'm only here to make suggestions, not debate over who is better ;-)

Screw your suggestions!:D Joke of course! Do you have any video of your GTO racing?

BLAH! I get no respect :-(

lol

YouTube- 2006 GTO vs. 2000 mustang GT

YouTube- procharged V6 vs GTO vs Mach 1

YouTube- GTO vs mach1 vs S197 GT

YouTube- Mach vs. GTO vs. GT

YouTube- 2006 GTO 0-150

the video's make it look fast... but in all honesty, I'm getting surpassed with this new 2011 turn for the muscle car era... most cars are pulling my times bone stock now... looking to pop on 15x8.5" out back and 15x4" out front with an M112 @ 6PSI, a mild stall and a 3/4" rear suspension raise with drag shocks and see where that lands me... but it's a project, I have a lot of other stuff on my plate too... I wish I could just throw all my money at the old girl but I can't :-(

this one is a little NWS... just a warning... but this one I made to reflect my personality a bit more xD

Torrie is the only email option at this point from the sounds of it. I have heard a few less than stellar reviews of it, though. Nothing bad, just not near as impressive as it could have been.
