I just installed white face gauge overlays on my 02 v8 LS. I live in Canada so the only ones I could find are the ones from the USA with the large numbers in MPH and the smaller numbers in KPH. This doesn't bother me at all because I grew up in "MPH". My problem is at night when the dash lights come on not all of the individual number light up because the MPH and KPH are not exactly equal and do not quite overlap each other perfectly. So I wanted to know if the black painted face of the stock gauge cluster can be removed where the numbers are so that the green back lighting will illuminate through the new numbers on the white face overlays. Can it be removed by fine sanding or other means. Any advise or experience would be appreciated as I really like the white faces and want to keep them.

Probably yes as the paint scratches off pretty easy.
I had the white face insert in my car for about a week before I decided I didn't like it.
After removing it I noticed I had scratched the black face near the base of the rpm needle and I could see light shining through.
There's also a white face insert that has it's own lights whose color you can change with a switch.

That's the one I have. The ones with their own lighting (thanks, tommy!)

are they called the reverse glow gauges? are they still available for the 02 LS? I looked on ebay but they only have them for the Navigator.

thanks for your help guys, I will check these out. Hope you don't need to remove the needles.

Don't have to remove needles.
The inlays slide on carefully as long as you put the needles in the 12:00 position.

The needles can be removed by carefully prying them up with a screwdriver and then can be put back.
After re and re ing a cluster the needles do a full sweep and reset as the drivers are like little electric motors.
