Which Stock Size Tires Are You Using? Why?

best tires Ive ever had where a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's, I had the all seasons cause of the snow i have to deal with, but if cold climate is not a concern, the summer tire is even better. caught a wicked sale I couldn't pass up so I tried them out, but failing suspension parts ended their life a little too soon, so now i just have a cheap set of falcons on there until the rest of the suspension has also been replaced.

My 2005 LS Ultima came equipped with Michelin MXM4 tires. When it came time to replace them, I opted for the little more aggressive tread (since I live in the Chicago area) of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus; these are of a directional tread design with better traction rating (AA), 235/50 ZR17 (for more details, you can look up the differences between the 2 tires on the web). In winter I noticed more of a rumble noise when driving, most likely due to the colder/stiffer rubber in combination with the more aggressive tread; don’t have that rumble noise in the summer. Also, the fuel mileage was affected; I am getting 1.5-2 mpg less with the Pilot Sport. In my normal route to work the mileage was 18.5-19 mpg with the MXM4; with the Pilot Sport it is 16.5-17 mpg. I bought and installed the K&N air intake system to see if the mileage would improve, but it didn’t help. The engine now makes such a beautiful sound that one is always tempted to step on the gas, and that doesn’t help gas mileage.

Last time I bought Goodyear it was for my Mustang and they were terrible. They were all season tires but had zero traction in the wet - going forward, stopping was a problem with those tires and Goodyear refused to do anything about them even though I got them new from a Goodyear dealer. They were just unsafe.

Switched to a different brand and never went back to Goodyear. Had Michelin Pilots before and BF Goodrich after and they were fine.

I've never personally owned Goodyear tires. The main reason being I've known several people that used them and they've all had bad experiences. I will only buy tires Discount Tire sells. Since there is one on nearly every corner in Dallas, if I get a flat I just have to get the car to one of them.

I've had great experiences with the Michelins, so I'll probably go that route. Gus_Mahn, I can see how they would probably look like truck tires from the side. But either way, thanks guys for your opinions and input!

My requirements:

1. Stock Size 235/50 17
2. Manfacturers Warranty - Performance tires and cheap tires generally have none. But its a must for me.
3. Excellent Handling in wet conditions. When it rains in Texas IT RAINS...HARD
4. Good life expectancy - I don't want to have to replace them again next year.

I will have the replacement warranty from Discount. They also do free rotations every 5000 miles.

The only problem now is coming up with the $900 to $1000...

Just ordered mine Tuesday, Sam's Club beat every one including Costco on price $206 then $70 instant savings, $882.17 tax, mounting, out the door. I like the wheel protector ridge on the sidewall. Replacing the older Sport A/S before the Plus improvement, I'm at 20K and down to the wear indicators, now pick up a lot of nails/screws at 2/32", even wear on all four tires.

Came with with Michelin MXM4 tires 235/50/17, had 23K, 3/32 tread on them when I replaced with Sport A/S, were noisy near the end, and lack winter traction. Considered the Continental ExtremeContact DWS, Tire Rack rated them a little higher than the Sport A/S but after reading customer review elsewhere decided to stick with the Michelin Plus A/S.
