If gen I is like gen II, then there are two knock sensors, one at the mid point of each head. The sensors themselves are very easy to change. The catch is that they are under the intake manifold. You have to remove the intake manifold to get to them. The most important thing about that is to get all the dirt cleaned away from the area so that you don't knock any into the intake ports and score the cylinder walls. You can reuse the old intake gaskets if you clean them up and apply some gasket maker type sealant to them. Also, there's a particular tightening sequence and torque to follow when reinstalling the manifold.
