im curious who has replaced coils on the V6 and had them fail.

what brands and how long did they last?

i need to replace the 3 under my IM. everyone says "visteons, visteons." previous owner put three new BWD coils on from Oreilley Auto Parts. A year and a half later, 10k and going strong. they also have a lifetime warranty.

also, i've seen some anecdotal claims of a performance increase with the visteons. has anyone measured this? or is it just cuz they corrected the performance decrease of a failing coil by replacing them? or is it just that adolescent effect of feeling more power when u make a change and ur looking for it? (cuz my car definitely got faster when i tinted the windows.) :p

Know that aftermarket parts are usually derived from deconstructing factory parts then making them at a discount. I have had Motorcraft coils on my daughter's V6 for at least 4 years with no issue. Visteon is (at least used to be) a subsidiary of Ford. They made parts to Ford specifications; something the aftermarket doesn't. This certainly isn't the old days when the aftermarket was better than the factory/stock; especially where emissions (and the EPA & CAFE standards) are involved. Anymore the price difference is negligible also. I had no performance increase with the Visteon coils (sorry, V8) and certainly none with the Motorcraft on the V6. Change the plugs while you're there as doing the passenger side is a bugger, as you know.
