Just noticed I have a broken wheel stud on my front passenger side. How do I replace it? Can I just bang the old one out with a hammer then replace it or do I have to take a bunch of other stuff off for access? Thanks.
1. Take off wheel and rotor
2. Turn hub to where broken stud is at 12 o'clock
3. Remove old stud
4. Place new stud in hole from behind and use a large C clamp to press it in
You may have to grind a small notch on the head of the stud to get it to press in properly. Due to the small variances in the casting process on the knuckle it may not sit flat enough to go in straight and if you force it you will mess up the threads. I had to do that on the one I replaced
Haha....thanks for the reply. I posted the question then decided to go out and give it a try before you responded. Found that hole at 12 o'clock and went for it. Took all of 10 minutes. I used the lug nut and 4-way to basically pull the stud as I tightened the nut. Fit like a glove. Looks like I did it right! Thanks!!
