Hello I got my first oil change today on the mark8 and I saw this why the car was on the rack. Can anyone tell me why there is an open hole there and should it be closed? thanks.

That is there so you can get to the drain for the torque converter. There is supposed to be a rubber plug in the hole though.

I had a feeling there should be a plug there. Will the dealership have one? also does the hole being open affect driveability?

I have not had mine installed for about two years.

I think it prevents rocks from getting in there. Imagine the noise that would make hehe. But I had mine out for a few years too never had a problem.

I didnt even know that hole was there but I do hit a lot of bumps so im surpirsed no rocks have gotten in there.

Im sure you can still get them. Jamie might even have a few trannys laying around, im sure one of them still has the plug.

Don't bother going to ford, just stop by a junkyard and grab one for free, or close to free. Just head towards the first RWD ford you see already lifted up, check to see that it has an automatic trans, and then crawl underneath and pop it out with a flat-head screwdriver.

Far as I know, only the 4R70W, AOD, and AOD-E have the plugs to drain the torque converter. I could be wrong, but I don't think the A4LD had one and I'm pretty sure the C-3, 4, 5, and 6 didn't have one. It's a great idea, though. That way, when you change your fluid/filter, you can drain the case and the converter so you put almost all brand new fluid back into the tranny instead of mixing old and new fluid.
