Stick with Motorcraft. If you want to know why you must search.

If you find a Motorcraft *New*, and can afford it, then that's the best. Most of the dealer units are now just remans.
I've been running a Napa reman and happy with it. I would not take a reman from Autozone, and would be very cautious with one from other parts chains.

Okay,Thanks oddball.I'll take a look at Napa.Is it a Napa alternator,or another name brand?

It's the Napa store brand.
Make sure you get the lifetime free replacement warranty. At least if it's questionable quality it will only cost time to replace. They also have a performance report included which is a nice touch.

Save yourself the headache of multiple replacements and get the Motorcraft alternator.

why motorcraft only?
who typically sells motorcraft cheapest?
what about rebuilding a failing motorcraft alt, would that be a route worth exploring?
and does anyone who used a non motorcraft alt have any other recommendations?
oddball how many miles on yours?
thanks

Apparently I'll be having the alternator replaced in my wife's '06. It started making a whining sound (similar to low p/s fluid) and only charges ~12.3 volts at ~2500rpm or idle. I'm a little disappointed as the car only has 61K miles. Then again, 90% of those miles are in-town.......

I've had the napa for almost 2 years now.

As far as rebuilds, the issue is using the factory regulator, which means reconditioning it instead of just replacing with a knock-off. If you know a good local alt shop, then it'd certainly be worth talking to them.

You might be able to find the alt though parts houses like Rock Auto, but a dealership like Tasca or Ford Parts Giant is your best bet.

So I had the alternator replaced the other day. From what I read here the ~$90 labor was well worth the aggravation!

Yeah when my alternator went I took one look at where it was located and immediately took it to my mechanic. SCREW THAT! lol
