Bought my 2000 v8 LS for $2900, it runs, drives, shifts, and looks great but if I floor it, it slips in and out of gear.

It has 173,XXX miles, original trans, I work a part time job, pulling maybe 100$ a week (I'm 17)

What's my best option? Should I try getting a flush? I can't afford to go and just get a new one, so I'll probably be getting a used one if that's even safe?

I don't know much really about transmissions so any help/ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you have a shudder under load, then that would be from the torque converter and could likely be fixed by exchanging (aka flush) all the fluid. However, if it is really slipping in and out of gear, then that is a solenoid valve body issue, and a fluid change is very unlikely to help.

It'l get up there, but I mean it just slips in and out, I got up to like 100 on a short stretch of highway just fine, its only if I floor it, if I slowly accelerated to 100...120 etc it drives and stays engauged just fine.

Okay, some questions to help determine what is really happening.

1. When is does this, is there any vibration or noise?

2. When it does this, do the RPMs on the tachometer go up greatly?

Yea the tach goes up greatly, but no, no real vibrations or anything, I mean you can feel it take off when it engages but that's about it

Well, it sounds like your diagnosis is correct. I don't think that just a fluid change would do any good. I don't know if changing the solenoid valve body would be enough to fix it, or if some mechanical damage has occurred too. I think that you could drop the pan and probably be able to determine it. If you find lots of bits of metal, then it's probably time for a new/used transmission.

How do I drop the pan? I thought the LS'es just had a drain and fill plug?

Sixteen or so bolts/screws hold the pan on. Just take those out. (It's a lot less messy if you drain the fluid first.)

How do I fill it back up though, don't I need some kind of fluid gun or something? Also what kind and how much fluid woul I need to refill it back up?

You don't need a machine to refill it, but it is much easier that way. There have been a few posts on this forum with some pretty good DIY ways to refill the transmission. Search for them. (If I could easily find them I would just post the links.)

I'm gonna head to AutoZone either later or tomorrow to get that pump, is there a special tip or hose I need todo it? And what kind/how much fluid do I need?

pffft

1. put an LS1 in it. (<<<< answer to all your problems... if your garbage disposal doesn't work right? you put an LS1 in it)

2. 4L65E

3. Profit?
