Hey all, I've been on the hunt for a transmission for mu 98 M8 for some time now. Not too easy to find here.
My baby has 152k miles and the salt here has not been kind to her. It made holes in the fenders and quarter panels, rusted 3 of my brake lines and the gas tank leaks if filled full. Still for the 1st 10 years she was Christine, only needed oil changes and wipers , ok tie rod ends and upper and lower control arms but that is it. So, trying to find a reasonable priced transmission and found one for $250 dollars. The auto recycler doesn't have key so I need to see how many miles on her.

So my question is what wires do I need to jumper to get the dash to light up and show me how many miles? And where is the easiest location to access these wires? Hope you will help me get my baby back on the road.

Just a heads up..... When my 97 had about 85K on it, I put a new exhaust system on it. I found the seeping trans oil from seals had gotten the wires to the trans connector wet. The oil turned the wire insulation to a chalk like substance that flaked off with any movement to the wires at all. I cut away and soldered in quite alot of the wires from the connector back into the harness. Point being, make sure your wires to the trans connector are not grounding or cross grounding. Also, when I researched doing the J-mod to the trans, I found it a common thing to have valve body springs break. My car didnt have that issue. If you didnt check for these things first, it might be an idea to do so first before dealing with a replacement.
