What wire is used for Navi day/night function?

On my new Pioneer Avic-z110bt I noticed that when I turn my lights on the map doesn't switch to night view it just stays on day view. I have the day/night setting on Auto so does anyone have any advice?

You shouldn't have to hook up any wire for that. On my F90BT it switches automatically.

My garmin uses the satalites I think... Don't see why a head unit style wouldn't as well.

Global positioning satelites... It keeps track of time for where you are... I'm not sure what time causes the shift, but mine seems to be up to speed with Daylight Savings Time. Again its a Garmin though not a indash.. It should work the same though.

The AVIC switches between day and night view based only on the time of day and your location. The illumination wire doesn't affect it at all.

The illumination wire switches the brightness level of the display. You get only two brightness levels (both selectable in one of the menus). Ideally, you would connect the illumination wire to one of the parking light feeds since that would work correctly no matter what the instrument dimer switch was set to. However, the LS makes that very difficult. Instead, connect it to one of the dash light illumination feeds. The easiest two to get to would be either the bulb for the ash tray illumination, or the illumination wire going to the message center buttons. Connecting to either of these will work as long as you don't turn the dimer to a very low setting.

as Joe pointed out, the avic does automatically switch between day (light background for maps) and night (dark background for maps), however the audio side doesn't have a day and night setting, also the night maps can still be way too bright, you will want to connect the illum wire so that when the head lights are on, the whole screen(navi & audio sides) will dim a bit and make it much easier on the eyes at night

the color scheme's change on there own, but the brightness doesnt

the light at the ash tray is the easiest to get to since there are only two wires there. trust me, you will want to hook it up

Well I have it set to "Auto" & it does not change to night at all. Is there something I'm missing that I need to do in order for this to take? I drove around all night yesterday & everyday since I put it in with a map screen that has a bright blue sky & some clouds...

According to the manual this function will not work so how are you guys getting it to work not hooking the wire up?

Well then... Sorry for the misinformation. What I described is how the other AVIC nav units work. Apparently they changed this for the Z series.

according to this, the Z series must act differently than the D and F series. I think that you need to have that wire hooked up for it to work then

our units work differently
all of the D and F series(D2, D3, F700bt, F900bt, and F90bt) all change color schemes by themselves at a certain time of day and then dim when the lights are on. for instance if it is in the middle of the day and i have my headlights on, the map colors are regular daytime colors but the screen is very dim and can barely be seen if the sun is out and bright.

Yes they were a great help over there & the problem is now solved. We just tapped into the ashtray wire & it switches to night view now. Big props to 1loudls for all his help!
