As many of you know I am putting a used engine in my '02 LS V8. My car has 94k on it and I will be putting in an engine from an '01 LS V8 with 108k.:shifty: Now after I do this I don't think I will want to be having to do anything to this engine for a while. What things should I check and/or change while the engine is out before I put it into my car? I have the plugs, coils, and gaskets which are new from my engine and they will put into the other engine. Should take maybe an hour being out of the car!
I was thinking the thermostat for good measure, but I'm not sure what else to do. I was hoping some of the guys who have been with this engine for a while could point the way. What are common repairs at this mileage? I will be checking all of the hoses for wear or cracking. Would it be worth my while to basically do a simple rebuild? Fresh bearings, piston rings, and gaskets or would there be a lot more involved to that process?
Thanks for any info. This should all be happening at the end of April or beginning of May. I am dropping the engine and transmission together to hopefully make this all a little easier. I will do what I can to make a thorough write-up of the whole precess too.
