What The F@%k??

haha those clowns on that forum, they should race a stock ss against an ls hahhahaha

What's the problem? A stock Cobalt ss/sc will run low 14's with ease...which is a far cry faster than any stock LS, especially if it's with a bad driver. It's tough, but you have to accept that a stock LS isn't that quick; it's a Lincoln, and without help it's not that powerful.

The LS isn't the fastest car on the road. What you get with the LS is a refined luxury sports sedan. I accept the fact that I won't blow the doors off of a Corvette simply because it is a near 4,000lb beast. The Cobalt is probably about 2/3's the weight and doesn't need much to push it down the road. You have to think in terms of horsepower to weight ratio. I'm sure a Cobalt with the right equipment will out run the LS but I'd like to see both of them head to head in an Autocross event. The LS would blow it away with the handling.

A Cobalt SS would beat a stock LS V8 pretty good guys. The LS is quick but can get beat by little cr@p boxes like that.

All these numbers came from Car and Driver.

Stock comparisons:
Cobalt SS
0-60 mph : 5.9 sec.
0-¼ mile : 14.4 sec @ 100 mph
60-0 braking distance : 140 ft.
200 ft skidpad : 0.88 g

Pre 2003 Lincoln LS V8
0-60 mph : 7.4 sec.
0-¼ mile : 15.7 sec @ 90.0 mph
70-0 braking distance : 188 ft.
200 ft skidpad : 0.82 g

2003 and Lincoln LS V8
0-60 mph : 6.5 sec.
0-¼ mile : 15.1 sec @ 94.0 mph
70-0 braking distance : 179 ft.
200 ft skidpad : 0.84g

Weight difference is huge.

Sounds like were getting all excited over a bunch of kids. Daddy got them to do this and that. And thy can buy new Nintendo toys with the money blah blah blah;.
Hey guys lets face it there are lots of cars then can beat the LS. But you try and compare these little ricer want to be cars to are LS and there nothing. If you bought your car just for racing then. I hope you have more money to spend on it. Or maybe should have got something that didn't have as much luxury. Hey I don't care how fast it is, if its ugly ( and the cobalt i think is a honda with a bow tie :ricesmile ) I wouldn`t be caught dead in it.
:L

Buddy of mine has an SS Cobalt. Pretty quick little car you get a lot of bang for the buck. I think it would be a good race if the LS was fogging a 75 shot in the 1/4. Otherewise I would put my $250 on the cobalt.

How would the Cobalt stand up to the LS in an accident. I unfortunately have rearended by a Jeep Wrangler. Their front end cost them $3500.00 to repair and mine was just $898.00. I bought my LS cause of the safety features. I'm older so I don't need to race anyone to prove anything.

The cobalt SS is a nice little car, just not the type of car most of us would drive.
The link above provides a look into the mentality of many drivers of those types of cars. To each his own, but I wouldn't trade the LS as a whole package for a few tenths on a track I will never drive on.

If I were so worried about the speed of my car I would have bought a WRX STI or even a SRT-4, both of which are faster than the cobalt.

I however wanted a LUXURY sport vehicle and the LS does it very well.

Edmunds didn't get nearly the numbers listed above on their SS:

Magazine comparisons are always a little off. Altitude and temp (and local gas blends) are factors.

Also, the Car companms typically send "ringers" for these tests...

So what if a Cobalt SS can outquick a stock LS off the line? At the end of the day, it's still a poopbox.

I think what is gay and embaressing is some idiot kid driving his parents Lincoln and going around talking crap. I'm glad he lost $250, serves him right. Hell i wouldnt even put money on my car vs. a Nissan Altima 3.5, especially a stick. With the LS its power pushes the weight around within acceptable specs., but its not going to stand up to any form of a sports car.

I say take that guy up into the triple digits bro. Long run your going to kick his ass!!!

who cares.. just be glad you drive an ugly ass car

Why are economy car owners such jack A$$es anyways?? At least we would lose in comfortable leather trimmed heated seats with 12 speaker audio and our mature 29 year old hottie in the car as opposed to low rent cheap material cost cutting ECONOMY car with our loud unemployed 17 yo immature girlfriend who thinks the Cobalt is spacious becuase she is 5'2".
